So here goes - if you, mother,
father or guardian, want your son or
daughter to not be a school killer,
you must do the following:
• Dedicate yourself to begin par-
ent first and careerist second. Ev-
eryone of our school killers up to
now have had parents who had
abdicated their parental role to chase
their own ego, careerist dreams.
• Be a disciplinarian. The shoot-
ers up to now have been aimless,
directionless youth, who have sel-
dom been told no or otherwise dis-
ciplined.
• Take your children to church.
All the killers, and their families
for the most part, have lacked a
spiritual foundation. Most of the
kid killers embraced some type of
Neo-Nazi or Satanic cult "worship."

sibly you too, then set fair but firm
rules, see that your kids abide by
them and support your kid's school,
church, scouts and other endeavors.
That is the one and only long term
solution to stop our kids from
killing kids.
A more short term and immediate
step is meaningful automatic
weapon, explosives and handgun
control. Please notice I did not say
anything about rifles, except I be-
lieve dial should be registered.
Face these statistics: In 1996
handguns killed the following
numb cr of persons-New Zealand 2,
Japan 15, Great Britain 30, Canada
106, Germany 213 and 9,390 in the
United States. Read those figures
qver several limes and answer this
question: Do you love kids or
handguns more? I have dedicated the
past 44 years of my life to raising
my family and educating and work-
ing with mine and others' kids, so
the answer is easy for me. I love
kids more than guns and I will ac-
cept some additional control over
my guns so that my nation will not
be nine thousand times more dan-
gerous than the second most dan-
gerous nation in the world.

While House Conference or some
jother "summit" type group reports
-that will have little substance in
them and offer little hope. So let us
examine the following hard facts:
Since October 1,1997, we have had
26 students, three teachers, three
parents killed and numerous other
persons wounded in school
shootings.
These murders occurred in eight
separate incidents (six high schools
and two middle schools or junior
high schools).The average age of
the ten killers was 15. The other
attributes of the shooters' profile
arc:
• While males
• Upper middle class families
• Students fell outcast from
school activities
• Students had access to money,
fire arms and the Internet
• Students lacked firm parental
discipline and guidelines
• Students were unhappy and
aimless

activities. Many of the killers have
had good intelligence but were do-
ing poor academically in school.
They also did not feel they were a
part of the school culture. To be
involved doesn't necessarily mean
you have to be a jock. Athletics are
great but so is band, agriculture,
yearbook, newspaper, Spanish
Club, drama, work/study (MOCT),
literary events, etc., etc., etc., To-
day’s comprehensive secondary
school have activities for every
youth's imcrest so to say "I'm just
not a jock or a musician" is a cop
out. /
• Never consume drugs. Most of
the killers were involved to some
degree with drugs and so were sev-
eral of the parents.
• If you consume alcohol, do so
in moderation. If your kids see you
drunk then you arc modeling that
drunkenness is OK Several of the
shooters and their parents were al-
cohol abusers.
• Monitor what your kids do.
Know the movies and television
Life can be tough at times but a they watch, the books they read, the
strong faith in God will see youth Internet that they are involved in
through the troubled times. and the music they listen to. Also
• Get your kids involved in know bow they decorate their
school academic and extracurricular rooms. Cheese cake and hunks
might not be so good but they arc
pretty normal and a lot healthier
than Satan and Hitler posters.
