But, their hard mouths make them
difficult to catch on hook and line.
Gray triggerfish get to be at least a
foot long and may reach a weight of
three or more pounds. They have three
stiff dorsal spines, a single pelvic spine
and a very tough hide. There are no
pelvic fins.
The flesh is of superior quality, but
is a little difficult to get at, because of
the tough hide.
They eat sea urchins, crabs, snap-
ping shrimp and bivalve molluscs.
Gray triggerfish are alert, inquisi-
tive fish and they do well in aquaria.
They are popular among the visitors to
aquaria at the U.T.-P.A. Coastal Stud-
ies Laboratory.
