reyhound musicians earn top marks at regionals
Following on the heels of their successes at the
Judson and Harlandale Marching Contests, the
Boerne High School Marching Band earned a Di-
vision One at the UIL Region 11 Marching Con-
test Saturday, Oct. 15, at Southwest High School
in San Antonio.
With this Division One, the band now advances
onto the Area Marching Competition that will be
held at New Braunfels Canyon on Oct. 29.
The Band’s performance at regionals included
an original work for marching band entitled
“Music of the Day” by Key Poulan. Movements in
the work are “Morning Hour,” “Lunch Hour” and
“Rush Hour” and featured Amanda Gass on flute;
Scott Neumann, Jared Flieller, Evan Sarli, James
Schad, Becky Reeves and Alex McCormack on
sax; and the entire percussion section.
Judges for the contest were John Walton and
Ferd Vollmar, both from San Antonio,, and John
Pearson from Austin. " *
Some of their comments included, “Overall-
great band!,” “I really enjoyed this,” “Your school
and community should be very proud of this,” and
“Outstandingly executed!”
“The kids have tolerated the 100-plus degree
weather while we were marching on the asphalt to
get to where we are now,” said BHS director
Kevin Arnott. “They are such a super group of
musicians and work so hard. I’m so proud of
them!”
Saturday, Oct. 8, the band competed in two sep-
arate marching contests. They started off the
morning at Judson High School in San Antonio
where they placed second behind New Braunfels
High School. They ended their day by competing
in the Harlandale marching contest that afternoon.
They placed second at the Harlandale contest be-
hind New Braunfels Canyon High School.
The Band also earned top honors at Harlandale
by garnering the Best Brass award and the Best
Percussion award. Drum majors Sarah Redding
and Scott Neumann also won the Best Drum
Major award.
