6 Local Agencies
Form Minicenter
Six community service agencies are pooling their
resources to form a minicenter at the Stone and Bates
Building, Oak and Carroll Blvd.
The minicenter, known as the Denton Interagency Center,
will include an information and referral service for Denton
county residents, a conference room for use by all social
service agencies in the county and offices for the six agen-
cies.
The Denton Housing Authority, one of the agencies in the
minicenter, will open its office Tuesday.
Within the next two weeks offices for the Community Food
Service, Community Services Inc., RSVP (Retired Seniors
Volunteer Program), SPAN (Services Program for Aging
Needs) and the Denton County Community Council (for-
merly the Interagency Community Council) will be open for
business.
Most agencies will keep the same phone numbers, said
Homer Reese, immediate past president of the Denton
County Community Council.
Reese said negotiations are under way for one or two other
agencies to join the minicenter.
The minicenter is a demonstration project funded by the
Texas Department of Community Affairs, Community
Services Administration and the General Services
Administration.
The information and referral service will depend mainly on
volunteer efforts, according to Reese.
