give such instructions as he deems accessary at this time for

Comnii scion of this date as Consul General of the Ports of ^ew
York, Boston, Philadelphia ?nd Baltimore in the United States
of America.
It is advisable that jou should repair to the city of .Mew
York without nore delay than can be reasonably avoided, and
report your appointment, and exhibit your commission and ins-
tructions to the ?,inist"r Plenipotentiary of this republic at
City of v/ashm^ton, and adopt sucii measures in conjunction with
said minister as may be docked accessary and proper for a re-
cognition by the mi ted Ctrtea "overrent, of your appointment
as Consul General for the ports above na^ed.
In the event of any del^.y in the recognition of the Indepen-
dence of Texas, and of ^our authority ns Consul, by the United
States Government, it is the wish of this Government, and you
are hereby injtruct^d to act until such recognition takes place,
as the General Consul, or Commercial Agent of this Republic for
the ports abovu mentioned, and as such uo do and perform such
