Colonial Hatcheries Adds
Started Pullet Plant Here
Colonial Hatcheries of Sweet-
water has set up a started pul-
let plant capable of producing
3,000 three-weeks old pullets
every week, according to Bill
Rice, manager.
Started chicks are shipped by
express in special chick boxes
equipped with automatic water-
ing and feeding units that en-
ables chicks to be shipped from
the plant her* to any point in
the United States. Shipping con-
tainers accommodate 34 started
chicks and they may be purch-
ased in any quantity from a
single carton up.
This is the first time that the
Colonial Hatchery here has
handled started chicks on a mass
production basis and the service
was added to meet a steadily
growing demand for started
chicks.
Started chicks eliminates the
necessity of investments for
brooder houses and other equip-
ment used during the starting
period, Rice pointed out. The
chicks are also past the danger-
stage and customers may ex-
pect 100 percent livability as
well as saving of the time nec-
essary to get the chicks started,
feed, remedies and other factors.
. During the three-week period
of starting, chicks are given the
best scientific care, balanced
ration of Nutrena chick starter
and a small amount of grit and
and chick scratch.
Chicks are brooded under the
strict sanitary conditions in the
Colonial plant and handled by
experts in every detail. Two tri-
ethylene-glycol units constantly
put out a fine mist that enve-
lops the entire brooding room to
purify the air. This method is
one of the major and newest
health precautions for chick
raising. As a further safeguard
to health of the chicks, no per-
son other than individuals car-
ing for the chicks are permitted
inside the brooder room.
Colonial Hatcheries is one of
the finest and largest in the en-
tire Southwest part of the na-
tion. The plant ships a large
number of chicks each year to
various states. The local plant
has been placed on a year-
around production basis and will
operate continuously except for
a few weeks when the facilities
will be shut down for complete
overhauling, fumigation and re-
painting.

ties that were her's when you
were growing up will return to
Mother when she is honored
with flowers on her day.
When mothers look at the
beautiful roses or other lovely

with grimy hands as her moist
hands sweep back the years.
Regardless of whether moth-
er lives a few blocks away or
across the continent, the Sweet-
water Floral company can see
to it that she'll get her favor-
ite flowers from you on Mother's
Day. Orders may be selected
right here and delivery made to
any distant point through the
facilities of Florists Telegraphic
delivery service.
As the years roll hy, Mother
becomes dearer and dearer to us.
It's because it takes years before
the best of us realize just how
much mother has given of her-
self to bring us every possible
chance at happiness in life. What
better way is there to honor her
on her day than with fresh, beau-
tiful flowers.
Sweetwater Floral Company
