Alamo Literary Society was favored
with an excellent address by Rev. E. P.
Williams, pastor of the Methodist
Church. Rev. Williams' theme was
"Needs of Southwestern for a Greater
Southwestern." In the beginning he
said that the biggest schools are not
always the best schools, and that the
average of the smaller schools is far
better.
Continuing he saici, "By far the im-
mediate need of Southwestern is a larg-
er student body. It must be necessary
to have at least two hundred new stu-
dent's for next year and to attain this
mark, those of the present student body
must not rely upon the prestige of the
school or the advertising methods used
by the faculty. Each of the literary
societies would- be helping wonderfully
if they would get in touch with grad-
uates of high schools of the State and
impress upon them the value and advan-
tages of Southwestern University. Each
student, and especially the members of
the Senior class, might do good work,
through the summer boosting,not knock-
ing, the old school."
"Other things that would go towards
the making of a Greater Southwestern
are the renovating and repairing of the
Main Building, a well-equipped. Gym-
nasium, and a commodious Library
building and the' improvement and
beautification of the college campus.
Better attention should be paid to the
literary societies, for they are places of
training that is beneficial to any young
man or woman. Above all, we must not
forget to stress the religious work in
Southwestern, for we are depending up-
on the members of a great church for
support, and we not disappoint them in
their expectations and desires along this
line."
The society enjoyed Rev. Williams'
talk very mnch and extends him a hear-
ty welcome to visit the society any time
that he itoay desire to do so. Mr. C. O.
Boatman was elected chaplaiu to succeed
William Hankla. March 2nd was set
as the date for the Alamo picnic. All
Alamos are urged to attend and each
onfe is asked to bring along as plentiful
a supply of "3ats" as possible. All
members who have cars and are willing
to assist in carrying their unfortunate
fellow members to Crockett Garden
please notify John Dunn.

CA|CBRON EX-S. U. STUDENTS EN-
JOT BANQUET
One of the most delightful social af-
fairs of the season was a Southwestern
University banquet given by the twenty-
five ex-students of this institution in
Cameron on Tuesday evening, February
14, at the home of Mrs. India Stidham.
, An elegant five-eonrse dinner consist-
ing of oyster coektaS, fruit salad, baked
chicken and accessories, Eskimo pie,
cake, and coffee, was served. The table
decorations, place cards, and plate fa-
vors suggested the Valentine season.
Rev. Ira P. Key, pastor of the Cameron
Methodist Church, was toastmaster and
the following toasts were given:
