of the geographic factors involved in the exploration and
colonization of America; a comparison of geographic with
non-geographic factors; the expansion westward; geographical
influences in the principal wars; growth of America into
world power. The major theme is the process of settlement
of the country thru discovery and appropriation of localities
of superior geographic attraction.
313.-Geographic Changes Resulting from the World War.
A close study of the changes in political boundaries in Europe,
Asia, and Africa which have been wrought by the World
War and the treaties which brought it to a close. This course
will be concluded with a brief study of the geographic reasons
underlying the desires of the European powers for spheres
of influence in Asia.
323.-Teaching of Geography. This course will survey
past methods of teaching geography and compare with best
methods of today; the aspect of geography; natural regions as
a basis of teaching; human geography; problem and project
methods of study; maps, pictures, exercises, outlining; comparison
of present day geography texts. Special work in the
Training School Department.
333.-Geographic Factors in the Location and Development
of Cities. This course includes a knowledge of place
geography. Special emphasis is given to American cities.
Advantages and disadvantages of location; comparison of
inland cities with seaports; classification of cities as to population,
industries, transportation facilities, hinterland, and
character of region.
343.-Geographic Background to the Bible. This course
is divided into three parts which emphasize the geography
of Bible lands in Old Testament time, New Testament
time, and the present time. The course requires map drawing,
tracing of campaigns and journeys, construction of relief
maps, study of many books of travel in Bible lands. The
industries, habits, customs, and traditions make very clear
many passages of the Bible.
