Group Elects
Mark Allen
Mark Allen, 8207 Dunlap, has
just returned frcm Austin where
he was elected Custodian of
Trophies of Texas Division Chil-
dren of the Confederacy.
The Texas Division, held its
convention' at Friday Mountain
Eoys Camp 20 miles cut of Aus-
tin. The camp has been donated
for a week each year to the
Children of the Confederacy by
the late Dr. Walter Frescott
Webb.
Mark, a junior at Bellaire, is
also president of his local David
O. Dodd Chapter. Another mem-
ber of this chapter, Miss Fran-
cis Bellew, 1118 Jackson Blvd.,
was elected secretary of Texas
Division.
This year is one of the Cen-
tennial years cf the War Be-
tween the States and the Chil-
dren are attending all celebra-_
tions here in Texas. The next
Centennial celebration will be
at Sabine Pass, September 7,
honoring Dick Dowling. The
public is invited to attend. Mark
will attend representing his
chapter.
Bridal Showers
Honor Miss James
A number of bridal parties
honored Miss Meredith James
prior to her marriage Saturday
to Kenneth Lee Tekell. A linen
and kitchen shower was given
for her at the home off Mrs.
Charles F. Broesche, 4705 Maple.
Co-hostesses were Mrs. Richard
C. Cantella and her daughter,
Jean, 5415 Patrick Henry and
Miss Barbara Broesche.
A China and glassware show-
er was held in the home of
Mrs. Joe H. Garrett, 5439 In-
digo with Mrs. E. C. Aston, 2211
Colquitt, co-hostess.
Miss James, her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Oran C. James, 5310
Holly and Miss Charlotte Head
were guests of the groom’s fami-
ly, Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Tekell,
1720 Woodlawn, in Corsicana,
for a weekend. While there, they
were honored with a tea at the
home of Mrs. Joe York.
Other parties in Bellaire in-
cluded a tea at the home of
Mrs. Harry Kinney, 4545 Bell-
aire Blvd., with her daughter,
Mrs. S. W. Patrick, assisting;
the spinster dinner given Aug-
ust 21 by Miss Head, 120 Car-
narvon; luncheon for bridal
party and out of town guests
Aug. 30 at the home of Mrs.
W. R. Purcell, 5102 Valerie; and
a buffet supper at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow W. Cone,
5023 Pease, with the groom’s
patents co-hosts with the Cones.

In Aztec, New Mexico
The wedding vows of Miss Pa
tricia Ann Hrncir and Dr. Tho-
mas James Heard were exchan-
ged August 10 in St. Joseph’s
Catholic Church in Aztec, New
Mexico with the Rev. Gerard
Geier officiating at the double
ring ceremony.
The bride, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Vladik Karl Hrncir,
8210 Hillcroft, was attended by
her sister, Miss Mary Kathryn
Hrncir. She attended University
of St. Thomas, and was gradu-
ated from Loyola University of
the South, New Orleans. She is
a memiber of Sigma Sigma Sig-
ma.
The groom, is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Thomas James Heard
of Aztec. Best man was Dr.
Charles E. MacLaughlin. Follow-
ing a wedding trip to Colorado
'the bride and groom1 will live in
Gallup, New Mexico. The groom
was graduated from Houston
College of Optometry. He at-
tended University of New Mexi-
co and New Mexico Institute of
Mining and Technology. He is a
member cf Omega Upsilon Phi.,;
For her wedding gown, the
bride chose .white silk organza.
Her veil was of illusion and de-'
pended from a headdress of seed;
pearls. She carried white roses
and carnations. Her attendant
wore aqua blue satin.
The Convent of the Good
Shepherd, a United Fund agency,
provides a non-sectarian home
arid school for maladjusted girls
11 to 17 years of age.
