A Texas State Railroad engine crosses S. Sycamore St. in Palestine on its way to
Union Pacific’s shipping and receiving yard. The 2.8 mile section of track connects
the TSR line to the Union Pacific line in Palestine.
TSR Authority meets last week;
RR conducts Palestine test run
By Quinten Boyd
Staff Writer
The Texas State Railroad
Authority (TSRA) held a short
meeting Jan. 10, their first
of 2013.
General manager Earl
Knoob told the board that
the Polar Express rides ex-
ceeded performances at other
railroads.
One day of the Polar Express
runs served as a fundraiser
for Toys for Tots of Cherokee
County, raising almost $3,500
for the organization.
The dome car that was used
during the Polar Express runs
will be shipped to California
for several train runs.
Plans were discussed to set
up rides in June and July
where kids ride free, and
the photo excursion runs are
slated for the first weekend
of May.
“We intend to continue Polar
Express, but our plan is also to
develop more special events,”
Mr. Knoob said.
Saturday and Sunday train
rides are expected to resume
March 2.
Mr. Knoob also discussed
plans for the freight runs,
especially with the 2.8 mile
section of track finished and
tested in Palestine.
“The plan is to have the
cargo moved by truck to the
Rusk depot, loaded on a train
and sent to the Palestine de-
opt,” he said.
“From there, it will go to
the Union Pacific rail line
and yard, then likely be dis-
tributed from a central loca-
tion. We’re hoping for further
progress on that end.”
The track section was tested
Jan. 8 in order to familiar-
ize TSR engineers with the
UP line and yard, as well as
dispatching protocols when
operating on UP track.
“This means pursuit of short
haul freight contracts can now
commence and will also allow
us to bring in additional rail
cars for special events,” said
Janet Gregg, TSR marketing
manager.
John Price presented a
report on the TSR society, an-
nouncing that 2013 calendars
have been produced.
Mr. Price also said the orga-
nization was making arrange-
ments for the planting of new
dogwoods along the track and
receiving estimates for repairs
on diesel locomotive TSR 22.
Roll call
Present were TSRA pres-
ident Steve Presley and
members A1 Holmes, Hugh
Summers, Griff Hubbard,
Bob Goldsberry and Marie
Whitehead.

a seminar by Tom LeMay
hosted by
Calvary Baptist Church
10am to 4pm
Saturday, January 26
After graduating high school, Tom joined the Navy, where
he became an aviation electronics technician. After leaving
the Navy, he worked at the Pentagon as a computer
technician for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, War-Games Division.
Tom worked on super-computers for about 20 years, and
was the "Engineer in Charge" of multiple computer sites at
NASA. He worked at NASA Houston during all of the moon
landings (Apollo 11 through 17) and the first four Sky-Labs.
He later worked at EDS in Dallas on a NASA project that is
still in operation.
Tom describes himself as a "default" evolutionist until
1976, when he was first exposed to Creationist teaching
by Dr. Dwayne Gish, co-founder of the Institute for Creation
Research, which is now headquartered in Dallas. Tom has
taught Creation over the years, but has been an in-depth
Creation teacher at his church for the last nine years where
his classes typically last 24 weeks for one complete course.
A Q&A will follow the seminar
