A petition was being circulated
last week Just alter the strike
stating that unless something was
done about the conditions at L. K.,
the girls would refuse to eat at the

At a meeting of Cardinal Key,
composed of a group of girls who
are members on the merit of their
outstanding abilities in the fields
of leadership, scholarship, and gen-
eral signal accomplishments, the
girls ■ aired their grievances and
were promised that something
would be done about existing con-
ditions in the immediate future.
Meeting with the girls was Mr.
1. J. McCook, business manager of
Southwestern, Mrs. Ruth Ferguson,
Deah of Women, and Mrs. Dallman.
At tKis meeting, the University of-
ficials brought out the fact that
no official complaint had been filed
with the University. The officials
indicated that they would have
been and will be more than glad
to rectify any justified complaint
Immediately after the meeting
of the Cardinal Key, the petition
was reputedly destroyed.
Mrs. Ferguson met with all the
old girl students at L. K. Hall after
the previous meeting and pointed
out that striking was not the pro-
per way to remedy the existing
conditions and also requested that
the girls call a ‘truce’ until Monday.
The stipulation was that if the
food had not improved by then,

a fall debut will be the Pirate
Football Swing Band, under the di-
rection of Mr. Ralph Jones. The Pi-
rate Band Show will be displayed
at the intermission, presenting
swing music arranged by Mr. Jones
and Mr. Thomas Douglass, violin
Instructor in the School of Fine
Arts. As the old students will testi-
fy, this type <fl music Is a definite
variation from the usual music pre-
sented by a football band.
Everyone on the campus extends
to the Exes a hearty welcome and
wishes for the most fun-packed
