BIRTHPLACE OF REV. H. A. BOAZ
REV. H. A. BOAZ.
Our President is one of the noble sons which Kentucky has given to
America. From Calloway County, Kentucky, he came with his parents to
Tarrant County, Texas, in 1872. He graduated from the Sam Houston
State Normal Institute at the age of 20 and for two years he taught in
the city schools of Fort Worth. He entered the itinerant ministry of the
Methodist Episcopal Church, South, in 1888, received the degree of Bache-
lor of Arts from Southwestern University in 1893 and Master of Arts one
year later, winning the senior orator's medal, the scholarship medal and
the first Orator's medal given by the Texas State Oratorical Association.
After seven and one-half years spent in an effective ministry he was
appointed President of the Polytechnic College in 1902. The Polytechnic
was a ."forlorn hope" in 1902. "Brother Boaz" had the vision to plan
large things, the discernment to call around him a band of men and women
whose loyalty knew no faltering, and the energy to lead on to the accom-
plishment of the task. Polytechnic College of today is the visualization
of his dream. Arid his work has only just begun!28
