It wasn’t the county music
association’s annual award
show, but the Yorktown FFA
Stock Show & Sale enter-
tained attendees just as well
this past Saturday at the
Yorktown show bam.

selected for his 224-pound
hog. Derek Franke followed
up with “That Don’t Impress
Me Much” by Shania Twain
as he exhibited his hog by the
same name.
Saturday’s show resulted
in a trifecta for Junior Doss
Torrez — his steer won Grand
Champion, his sheep won
Reserve Champion, and he
received the Showmanship
buckle in the steer division.

Yorktown city council
met at the library on
February 11.
TXU energy representa-
tive Michelle Ferguson was
at the meeting to renew the
city’s electricity contract.
“Even though the natural
gas prices have risen we
were able to get the renewal
price lower from .06115 to
.0587710 cents per kilowatt
hour,” Ferguson said.
The city would have the
same plan as the last two
years.
The vacant position for
the executive director for the
Chamber is still in the
process of being filled. Mark
Weischwill, president of the
EDC, asked the council if
insurance for the position
could be enrolled with the
city employees but the EDC
would incur the costs.
“Our question is can the
city add an employee to their
insurance? We are taking a
step back and seeing what
we can afford and what is
important of a pay package
as far as health insurance,”
Weischwill said. The council
decided that this matter
would be discussed at the
next meeting.
The last item was tabled
in regards to the variance
request from John Golden to
establish a drive-through
store that can sell alcoholic
beverages. The city and
council were still looking
into this request.
The next meeting will be
at 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb.
25 at the Library.
