Yard of the Month
The Friends of the Yorktown Public Library members, shown left to right are
Treasurer Diana Ford, Librarian Beth Riedesel, Assistant Librarian Mickie Dennison,
President Dee Pokluda, and Secretary Betty Sharp wish to thank everyone who attend-
ed "Death by Chocolate" on Monday, Feb. 11. A good time was enjoyed by all.
John, Maegan, Christian and Taylor Gips are the owners of the very attractive February
Yard of the Month, located at 203 N Hoppe Street in Yorktown. The yard features flax
lilies, hinger, and other unique and well-maintained plants. The Yorktown Chamber of
Commerce congratulates the Gips family on maintaining such an attractive yard.
Weather Service seeks rainfall observer
The National Weather Service is seeking an
official rainfall observer within a five mile
radius of Yorktown. This individual would
measure, record and report the daily rainfall at
his or her station.
Yorktown rainfall records began in 1940.
The area’s latest observer quit due to health
reasons but the National Weather Service
would like to continue receiving rainfall
reports from Yorktown. The volunteer would
receive the necessary equipment and training
to do this job.
These rainfall records are important for
many reasons. They help to model and fore-
cast flood events, support agriculture con-
cerns and help in many other climate oriented
studies.
Those interested in helping maintain this
program are asked to send a letter to: National
Weather Service, 2090 Airport Road, New
Braunfels, Texas 78130, attn: Joe Baskin.
