Shutterbugs announce
photo contest dates
The DeWitt County
Shutterbugs invite all photog-
raphers to enter the 2013
Annual Photography
Contest/Exhibition. The sub-
mission dates are between
Friday, March 1 and
Thursday, March 28.
Over $1,000 in prize
money will be awarded in
both the adult and youth divi-
sions.
In the adult division there
are seven categories: archi-
tecture, animals/fauna, flow-
ers/plants, landscapes/scenic,
miscellaneous, por-
traits/people, and special
effects (digital or film). First
place in each category will
receive $50, second place
will receive $40, and third
place will receive $30. A spe-
cial wildflower category fea-
tures a $75 award and Best in
Show has a prize of $100.
Adults have a $5 entry fee per
photo with no limit of entries.
The youth division is open
to students in eighth grade or
lower and has one general
category. First in youth wins
$30, second wins $20 and
third wins $10. Youth have a
$3 entry fee.
On April 6 a panel of three
qualified judges will select
winning photographs based
on technical merit and artistic
impression. Only the highest
scoring photos in each cate-
gory will be exhibited.
Approximately 250 photos
are displayed from the hun-
dreds submitted. The exhibi-
tion will take place at the
Cuero Municipal Library.
Photos will be on display
from April 8 - May 2 during
library hours, which are: 8:30
a.m. to 5:30 p.m. from
Monday through Friday and
9 a.m. to noon on Saturday.
All entries must conform

DeWitt Museum Thurs.
Yorktown Bicentennial
Chapter, NSDAR, will meet
Thursday, Feb. 21 at the
DeWitt County Historical
Museum at 2:00 p.m.
Guest speaker, Texas
DAR Registrar Gaby Hadyka
of Corpus Christi, will dis-
cuss George Washington,
America's first president
(1789-1797), bom February
22, 1732.
Mrs. Hadyka joined DAR
(Daughters of the American
Revolution), as a Junior
member, in 1993 and since
that time has held numerous
positions in her local chapter
as well as Texas Society
DAR. She will have with her
items for purchase to help
fund the campaign of Texas
Daughter, Lynn Lorney
Young, who is seeking the
office of National Daughters
of the American Revolution
President General.
You are invited to attend
for an afternoon of fellow-
ship, and if you are thinking
of joining DAR this is an
opportunity to learn more
about the organization and
how to become a member.
Country Opry Thursday at Cuero VFW
The Cuero Country Opry,
sponsored by the Pilot Club,
will be held Thursday, Leb.
21 at the Cuero VLW Hall.
The hall is located on
Highway 183 North in
Cuero. The Chisholm Trail
Swing Band with perform

and Wayne Brown.
Dinner will served from
5:30-6:45 p.m. Plates will

Lions Club used
eyeglass drive
The Yorktown Lions Club
asks members of the com-
munity to donate any eye-
glasses no longer in use for
the Used Eyeglass Drive.
Citizens may drop off old
glasses at Citizen’s Bank,
DeWitt Dental Professionals,
PLLC (Dr. John Lrels
office), or any Lions Club
member would be happy to
take them off your hands.
Chamber golf
tournament
The 1st annual golf tour-
nament sponsored by the
Yorktown Chamber of
Commerce is scheduled for
Saturday, May 18.
The tourney will be a
four person best ball tourna-
ment at the Yorktown
Country Club. Entry fee is
$50 per person.
Those wishing to sponsor
the tournament or register as

Services

A joint Lenten supper
and service will be held on
Wednesday, Leb. 20 at St.
Peter’s Lutheran Church in
Ander. The Lenten service
series is sponsored jointly by
St. Peter’s, St. Luke’s
Lutheran Church in
Schroeder, and Zion
Lutheran Church in
Ameckeville.
Supper will be available
