treasurer.reports a suc-
cessful homecoming last
Sunday at Prospect.There
was a nice crowd, plenty
of food, and a good of-
fering for the support
of the cemetery.In spite
of the hot weather, she
says people enjoyed get-
ting together and visit-
ing and renewing ac-
quaintances, catching up
on the happening of
another year.
Mrs. Rachel McWilliams
went with Dow and John-
nie and boys to vacation
for a few days in Flor-
ida. While Bow and John-
nie took the boys to
Disneyland. Rachel en-
joyec a visit with her
brother and wife, Tom
and Bernice Ramsey in
Pensacola.
Maydelle Burns reports
day-by-day Improvement
as she recuperates re* a
broken leg. A therapist
comes from the hospital
two or three times a
week to direct her exer-
cises,while a nurse also
checks her and takes
care of any needs she
may have. Maydelle had
to miss the reunion of
her class, the THS Class
of 1940,but she is still
remembering with plea-
sure the consideration
of her classmates. Mr.
and Mrs. Theron Smith of
Orange visited Mrs. A.F.
Burns and Ucris that
day. All of the class-
mates called the nospi-
tal from the Harris home
where they gathered and
each greeted Maydelle
long distance.On her way
home,Lucille Dillon Pate
stopped by for a person-
al visit and Luna and
Rex Bell had made a roll
of Polaroid pictures and
they drove right over
for her to see them.
M.C. Tyer of Houston was
here last Saturday to
attend the Harris-Tyer
reunion at the American
Legion Hall in So So
Park. Afterwards, he had
supper and spent the
night with Mr. and Mrs.
Cullen Wedgeworth. The
two men have known each
other for many years and
are great friends. M.C.
used to have service
stations in Houston and
Cullen worked for him
several times.Mrs.Wedge-
worth reports that they
had a great time talking
about the old timers of
Tiapson. Sunday moring
he left to go by and
visit with a relative.
Mrs. Thelma Tillman, and
then to attend the Pros-
pect homecoming.
A week or so ago Don
Rhodes cut his middle
finger on his right hand
so badly that he requir-
ed plastic surgery and a
skin graft. Fortunately
the finger is well and
the stitches have been
removed.
While playing football
with some friends a week
ago Monday, Wayne Hooker
suffered a broken leg.He
was to go back to the
Nacogdoches hospital
Tuesday to see if it
will require surgery, a
family member said.
Visiting us Friday was a
delightful missionary
family, my nephew and
family from Brazil: Dr.
Kenneth Eagleton and
his wife fiejane and
their four boys.Daniel.
Paul, David and Ruben,
ages 9 months to 9
years. They have been.
in the States less than
a year, in Nashville,
Tennessee, where Ken-
neth has been attend-
ing the Free Will Bap-
tist College preparing
to go to the Ivory
Coast in Africa as a
medical missionary. He
is a medical doctor,

having earned his M.D.
before he was 25 and
has already practiced
medicine in Brazil for
four years while he or-
ganized and pastored a
church In the town in
which he lived. He has
answered the call to
serve in Doropo where
the church has a hospi-
tal manned only by
nurses, where people
die of such complaints
as appendicitis because
there is no one to do
even simple surgery.
Volunteers from the
denomination In the
States have gone on
ahead and built an op-
erating room (paid for
by a church in Michi-
gan) and a house in
which the family can
live. Kenneth Is the
oldest son of my sister
Maryis and her husband
Ken Eagleton, mission-
aries in Brazil for
about 27 years.
After several days in a
Nacogdoches hospital,
Mrs. Edmond Hebert is
now at home recovering
from the effects of a
bout with pneumonia.
Her daughter Jan McGo-
wewan from Richardson
will be with her a few
more days unti1 the
other daughter Martha
comes.
Approximately 80 par-
sons, descendants of
Will Tyer and Lavada
Harris Tyer, were pre-
sent for the Harris-
Tyer reunion Saturday
in the American Legion
hall lit Timpson. Each'
year someone is select-
ed as chairman. This
year it was Carol Sue
Smith of Nacogdoches,
daughter of Cobum and
Hina Tyer. She is re-
sponsible for the beau-
tifully decorated hall
and the other arrange-
ments. The food was
barbecue with all the
trimmings and topped
off with desserts
brought by each of the
families. To pay for
the other needs, this
group has a raffle each
year, for which each
member contributes
something he has made
*o be sold to the high-
st bidder. Thus the
Thursday. June 13. 1965
food for the next year
is already provided.
Such items as a knitted
or crocheted baby blan-
ket or afghan. a framed
..picture, any handcraft
'for which one has a
particular talent are
brought for the auc-
tion.
Word comes today of the
death of E.H. Lilly of
Longview, a native of
Timpson 1M10 has many
relatives end a host of
friends in Timpson. He
passed away last night,
Sunday, about midnight
in a hospital in Long-
view after a lengthy
bout with cancenul His
wife, the former Leba
McGowan, is also a
Timpson native.The fun-
eral is scheduled for
tomorrow in the First
Christian Church in
Longview where the
family are faithful
members, with burial in
the Elderville Cemetery
near their home.
Edith McClung and her
sister Golda Andrews of
Dallas have just re-
turned from a week's
visit with Leonard An-
drews, Golda's son, in
Philadelphia. Leonard
wanted them to be there
for a national art show
which he had organized
to give unknown artists
exposure. There were
about 1400 entries and
the show resulted in the
launching of several ar-
tists as well as presen-
tation of money prizes
mnd scholarships.
Connie Lake and family
of Longview were in
Timpson Saturday to
check on their parents,
Mr.and Mrs.Morace Lake.
Mr. Lake had just come
home from the hospital
but was able to be at
church Sunday.
