Rain Creates
During the past summer we
had much beautiful weather to
enjoy but from now until
Christmas we can expect some
of the worst. Rain is sure to
ruin many autumn outings,
many trips to games, many rou-
tine drives to and from work.
Rain quickly slows traffic to
a crawl. Wbrse yet, it causes
streaky windshields and obs-
cures drivers’ vision. The High-
way Visibility Bureau points
out that Mf percent of driving de-
cisions depend on sight.
If you wear glasses, be surjr
they’re clean when you drive.
Be sure your windshield is
clean and your windshield wip-
er equipment arms, blades It
washers-is in top condition.
Wiper arms should exert a
pressure against the windshield
of an ounce to each inch of
blade length. If pressure is right
and wiper still streaks, it means
the blade is dead and calls for
The captain whose aircraft was
hit seven times by enemy ground
fire during his fighter-'bornber
strikes, cited a sortie flown in
support of a besieged Special
Forces camp as his most mem-
orable mission.
"We arrived on target about
2 a.tn." Captain Teague said.
The weather was bad and we
immeditely ran into heavy gro-
und fire. The camp was un-
der attack by enemy soldiers and
was in grave danger of being
overrun.
“We put all our ordnance
right on target and were cre-
dited with destroying a recoil-
ess rifle and two mortar posi-
tions, inflicting more than 120
enemy casulaties, and baiting
the attack. As any pilot in Sout-
east Asia will tell you," the cap-
tain added, “the close air sup-
port missions are the most re-
warding. That’s what we're here
for and it gives us a real good
feeling when we can get in
there and give our ground
forces the help they need."
Captian Teague was a ground
forward air controller and sear-
ch and rescue mission coordin-
ator during previous tour in
Vietnam in 1966. His combat de-
corations include the Distingu-
ished Flying Gross .the Bronze
Star Medal and eight awards
of the Air Medal.
The captain to scheduled for
reassignment to Reese AFB, Te-
xas where he will serve as an
instructor pilot.
A graduate of Collage Station
High School, he received his
to A. Degree in journalism
from Texas A it M University
and was commissioned there
in 1959 upon completion of the
Air Force Reserve Officers
Training Corps program.
Captain Teague's wife, linda
is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
H. A. Weatherby, 1240 Wild-
wood, Stephenvilk, Terns.
