Beckville’s Maya Brad-
ford and Ivy Rieke led the
way Tuesday night and the
Ladycats pulled out a 38-35
win over Carlisle on the
road. The senior-junior
duo combined for 28 points
and 19 rebounds in the La-
dycats 14th win of the sea-
son.
The Bearcats boys’ team
fell 48-34 in the nightcap in
Carlisle.
Bradford pushed the La-
dycats ahead in the first
quarter with seven points
and an assist to Rieke on
Beckville’s first bucket of
the game.
The Ladycats tied the
game at five on a three-
pointer by Devin Woodall
and took die lead on a steal
and a layup by Bradford.
She added three free
throws and a jump shot
near the end of the period
to give Beckville a 14-7
lead.
Rieke scored all eight of
the Ladycats’ points in the
second quarter. She hit
three shots from the floor
and a pair of free throws in
the period. Carlisle put to-
gether an 8-2 run in the
middle of the quarter and
trailed Beckville 22-18 at
halftime.
The Ladycats struggled
offensively after the break
and managed to score only
five points in the third pe-
riod. Rieke scored on the
first possession of the half,
which proved to be
Beckville’s only field goal
of the quarter.
Jennifer Davis hit a free
throw and Bradford added
two more from the charity
stripe to round out the
scoring for Beckville.
Carlisle hit a three-pointer
with two seconds on the
clock to send the game into
the fourth quarter tied at
27.
Beckville took a three-
point lead early in the
fourth, but lost its advan-
tage with 3:28 to play. A
three-pointer by Woodall,
however, recaptured the
lead on the Ladycats’ next
possession.
Carlisle tied things at 35
a minute later and missed
a free throw to keep the
game knotted up. Rieke
gave Beckville the lead for
good with a pair of free
shots with 1:09 to play.
The Lady Indians pro-
ceeded to turn the ball over
twice in the final minute
and missed six free throws
to close out the game.
Rieke scored a game-
high 18 points and reeled
in nine rebounds. Brad-
ford added 10 points and a
team-high 10 rebounds
and five assists. Woodall
finished with six points
and Davis and Cassidy Cox
added two points each for
Beckville.
The win for the Ladycats
improves their season
record to 14-14 and 3-7 in
district play.
