Miss Leggett's pre-kindergarden class participated in the 5th Annual Pet Day. Pet Day is to teach the children all about pets, and
the importance of food, water, and care. 38 students participated, all of them bringing their pets. Pets brought to the event
included horses, chickens, rabbits, dogs, and a cat. All students recieved a blue ribbon for participating. Kaylee Metcalf brought
her pet horse, Thomas Pugh brought his pet dog, and Jacob Moffett brought his pet chick. (See pictures on page 9A)

help,” Sharpe said. “We i

of a junior or senior is

Sharpe said she began
the initial work to orga-
nize this year's prom in
September. “I sent out a
letter to every parent of a
senior and junior asking
for help,” Sharpe said.
“We then had a meeting to
set up committees. Each
committee works together
to put out the theme that
the senior class chose.”
Sharpe estimates that the
average female student
may spend somewhere be-
tween $1,000 and $1,200
while their male counter-
parts would typically

Festival begins Friday

Club, and the Busy Quit-
ters Guild of Panola Coun-
ty will be hosting the 10th
Annual "Piney Woods
Quilt Festival" at the
Carthage Community
Shelter and Civic Center,
April 19 and 20, 2013. The
show is open from 10 a.m,
to 5 p.m. on Friday and
from 9 to 4 p.m. on Satur-
day. Admission is $3.
The Piney Woods Quilt
Festival enjoys the sup-
port of many local and
area corporate and indi-
vidual sponsors who
make the show possible, to
whom the hosts are
deeply grateful.
The event provides an
opportunity for local and
area clubs to highlight the
growing interest in the
skill and artistry of quilt-
ing. In addition to classes
and supportive instruc-
tion to new and experi-
enced quilters, both clubs
contribute to various
charities including Project
Linus and the Susan
Komen Foundation.
Funds to support these ac-
tivities are raised through
