Whitewright Was Here
Bulldogs To Host Leonard
Coach Norman Dickey’s
Howe Bulldogs are batting 500
against Class A foes following
last Friday night’s 41=0 defeat
at the hands of Whitewright.
The 'dogs take on a third
Class A team this week when
Leonard's Tigers come here
for the third home game. Howe
will play the first game away
from home next week, against
the Celina Bobcats.
Howe staved off White-
Wright and Willie Wright, an
all=state back last year* for
six minutes of the first quar-
ter before the 234=pound
speedster broke over the left
side of the defense for 62
yards and the initial score.
A 32=yard pUnt by Howe’s
Ricky Haning8 shortest of the
night, set the Tigers in motion
for the play.
Whitewright scored again
in the first stanza on a 55=
yard play around the left side.
Third tD, in the second quar-
ter, was a 27=yard pass play
to climax a 63-yard drive
from the WW 27. Halftime
score was 19=0.
The visitor’s, last little
time in the third period, scor=
ing on a 71=yard romp on the
third scrimmage play. Two
point conversion brought the
total to 27-0. Wright ac-
counted for the next TD, the
second of the night for him,
on a 3-yard plunge following
recovery of a Bulldog fumble.
Howe lost the pigskin five
times in the last half via the
miscue route.
Wright returned a Howe
punt 80 yards for the climax
to the TD rally, late in the
final period.
The Bulldogs garnered good
field position throughout the
game, but were unable to move
against the heavier Tiger de-
fense. Haning’s punting led
the Bulldog efforts to a great
extent, with an average of 46
yards per kick, one a 70=yard«
er.
