St. Anthony Church- 100 Years in the Making
bv Erin Worreli
A philosopher once said,
"In every conceivable man-
ner, the family is link to
our past, bridge to our
future." It is in this spirit
that members of the
St. Anthony Catholic Church
family in Harper are gearing
up to celebrate
their 100 year history of
serving the community.
Everyone is invited to
attend the activities
planned for June 12,13 and
14.
The weekend's festivi-
ties begin at 7:00 p.m. on
Friday, June 12 with Mass at
the church located on Third
Street.
Our Centennial
Celebration continues on
Saturday, June 13 with a
parade reminiscent of the
one held for our original
church building dedication
in 1909. Various families,
businesses and community
organizations will have
entries including antique
tractors, cars, trailers,
horses and other unique

turns north on Fourth
Street for one block, then

Harper Head Sta
the Harper Community
Park before turning east
onto Hwy 290 and conclud-
ing at the Harper school.
Additional activities on
Saturday, June 13 include
Mass at 11 $0 a.m.
celebrating the feast day of
St. Anthony of Padua, the
patron saint of our
church. Archbishop Jose H.
Gomez of the Catholic
Diocese of San Antonio
will be celebrating Mass. A
barbecue lunch in the
Father A.A. Gitter Hall
will begin at 12:30 p.m.; the
cost of the meal is by dona-
tion. An introduction
of guests begins at 1:30 p.m.
followed by games and
activities including bingo
at 2:15 p.m. Children will
