Elected
Officials
(Editor’s note: As critical
issues come before both the
state and national govern-
ments, I have decided to
devote a little of the
paper’s space to contact
information for our elected
officials. The closer we as
citizens stay in contact, the
better our officials can act
to protect our interests.)

Many of those buried there
are from the Taylor, Banta
and McDonald families. To
the right is Stormy Maner
and his granddaughter,
Rachel Maner behind the
graves of his great grand-
parents.
This is also the gravesite
of those four union sympa-
thizers (Seabird Henderson,
Hiram Nelson, Frank Scott
and Gus Tegener) who were
hung in 1862 by Colonel
James Duff’s Confederate
Regiment.
The clearing of the
cemetery has begun along
with replacing of a perime-
ter fence but much work
remains to be done. Some
of the graves are identified
but most are not. The
group is using witching to
locate all the graves and
hope to get this cemetery
officially recognized as a
State Historical Cemetery.
A fund has been set up at
Security State Bank under
the name of Spring Creek
Cemetery Fund. Those
wishing to help in the
restoration of this project
can call Jay Taylor or
Martha Stevens for more
information or just donate
by going to the bank.
This project was also
written up in last week’s
West Kerr Current by Irene
Van Winkle.
A group of men and
women have begun work
on the restoration and
clean up of the historic
