Not a lot to report the
week-getting over the
Easter holiday and family
fun, church services, egg
hunts and lots of good food.
This holiday is as busy or
more so than Christmas
sometimes.
All the regular meetings
and things going on:
Library and Lions meet on
Monday, as well as “A Walk
through Grief.” Angel food
orders are due on Apr. 12
also. Lots of school contests
(UIL, FFA, baseball, softball,
track, band and seniors fill-
ing out forms) and every-
body getting fidgety about
school coming to a close.
Our condolences to the
family of Hal Haines who
passed away this past week.
Services were on Tuesday at
St. Anthony Catholic Church.
Also to the family of Marvin
Dietz, who died in Round
Rock. Graveside services
were held at Greenwood in
Fredericksburg on
Saturday. He is survived by
his wife, “Larry,” three chil-
dren and five grandchil-
dren.
The Presbyterian Church
will hold its annual “Church
on the Pedernales” on Apr.
18, so no services in the
church itself will be held.
Everyone is welcome to join
them on the river for serv-
ice at 10:30 a.m. Call a
church member for direc-
tions to the meet.
The Lutheran Church will
hold its annual Bluegrass
Sunday on Apr. 25. Should
be a toe-tapping good
time.
The last Pioneer Club
meeting for the spring term
will be Apr. 21.
The Harper Library folks
had a good turnout last
Saturday. They served some
good food and offered
some good music. The auc-
tion items did well as did
the cake auction. This is
always a fun day and a good
fundraiser for the library.
It was also a good day on
Sunday for the museum for
the open house, quilt show
and Easter egg hunt. The
museum is open on Sunday
afternoons for 2:00 to 4:00
p.m. during the year. Come
down and walkthrough a
bit of history.
The Community Easter
Program was enjoyed by a
number of townspeople on
Sunday. The pastors
brought a good message
and the choir sounded
beautiful.
The Community Help
Center benefits from this
event, and those attended
opened their pockets wide
to help others in our area
giving $356 to the center.
Angel food menus are out.
Pick one up at church, the
post office or the Help
Center. You may also call
864-4388 and leave a mes-
sage for one to be mailed to
you.
Anyone Interested in
gathering to discuss the
“Christmas Lights Crusade”
is asked to meet at the
Harper Library on Apr. 22 at
6:30 p.m. If we can at least
put lights across the street,
it sure would look more
festive and would make
Harper definitely look bet-
ter.
There are some orna-
ments in storage that can
possibly be used, but the
goal is for new ones to suit
our community to be put
up. An anonymous donor
would like to set up an
account at the bank to start
this whole process. Even
small amounts are wel-
come. Come and put in
your suggestions.
Several in our community
are to be commended for
taking the EMT courses on
updating themselves with
additional courses in the
fire department. The EMT
training should be ending in
several months, so hopeful-
ly, a few more able bodies
can join the calls in our
community. We thank you
for that.
On our sick list this week is
Mike Valdez who is in great
need of your support and
prayers. Verena Stehling is
still under 24-hour a day
care and Paul Ridgell
injured his hand and will be
working to regain his play-
ing ability on guitar.
Jenness Rogers is back at
work full-time, but is still
facing some medical proce-
dures. Connie Bernhard and
Karen Conway are healing
well.
Our condolences to the
family of Jamie Lively who
passed away last week. He
and his wife, Coletta, moved
here about ten years ago.
Sympathies also to the
family of Ollie Schaetter, a
well-known Fredericks-
burg businessman. He will
be remembered and is
respected for many things is
our area.
His family will keep his
memory alive by continuing
the business the Schaetter
family started over a hun-
dred years ago. Ollie was a
quiet and respected person
who worked among people
who needed understanding,
guidance and comfort.
