An informational meeting
was held about proposed
transmission lines which will
connect the wind farms in

for the use of their hall.
Dr. Bob Dittmar started
the meeting with Robert
Weatherford (above) talk-
ing about the PUC lines
which are crossing the
southwest corner of
Gillespie County. There are
four companies vying for
the right to build these
lines: LCRA, Lone Star
Transmission, LLC (an affili-
ate of Florida Power and
Light), Trans-Elect (an affili-
ate of AES and CPS Energy,
the public utility from San
Antonio.
In addition to this PUC
sanctioned line, Hilliard
Energy, another affiliate of
Florida Power and Light, has
begun to contact landown-
ers north and east of Harper
to obtain easements for a
second line. It is not part of
the PUC’s plan.
Mr. Weatherford raised
these questions: “Why do
we need two lines going
through our area that are
only a few miles apart?”
Does Hilliard Energy have
the right to use eminent
domain?” Because Hilliard is
a private company, they can
not condemn property.
Other folks spoke to the
issue with pertinent facts
that they shared with the
group.
Their questions included:
Is the easement in perpetu-
ity? Can you limit the ease-
ment to one usage?
Bob Reeves, a real estate
appraiser advised getting
professional right-of-way
appraisers to evaluate the
property along with legal
counsel.
Vernon Fritze noted that
contracts must be in writ-
ing. He hoped that
Harperites would get as
many people involved as
possible and urged the
group to voice their opin-
ions to the proper authori-
ties.
Bill Brandis noted that
when the Hill Country is
bisected with power lines,
its beauty and value will be
reduced and lost forever.
Judy Gordenbaum
steered listeners to a web-
site with contains the Texas
landowners “Bill of Rights.”

Another lady urged the
group to talk to their neigh-
bors; transmission line
agents will be talking to
them!
Harry Wilke encouraged
the group to organize, hire
an attorney and work
together in one group.
Other questions included,
“Why can’t it go down the I-
10 corridor? “ and “Is is
