Contest Reception
The library is pleased to
invite the public to the
First Annual “Americans
Who Tell the Truth” Essay
Contest Reception on
Sunday, March 2, 2008, at
the Harper Library at 2:00
p.m. Essay winners will be
awarded cash prizes and
certificates for their partici-
pation. Inspiration for this
contest came from the chil-
dren’s book, Americans
Who Tell the Truth, by
Robert Schetterly. This
book is Mr. Schetterly’s
response to 9-1 -1. He has
chosen Americans who are
truth tellers, showing
courage, honesty, toler-
ance, generosity, wisdom,
and compassion. These are
persons like Jane Addams,
Cesar Chavez, Susan B.
Anthony, Henry David
Thoreau, John Muir, Helen
Keller, Martin Luther King,
Jr. and many, many more.
He has painted a portrait of
each and chosen a
representative quote from
their lives. The school
libraries as well as the
Harper Library each have
copies of this book.
Material about this book
and author/artist can also
be found at www.american-
swhotellthetruth.org. The
Harper News is a co-sponsor
of the contest.
Summer Reading
