Kids say the darndest
things!
We’ve all chuckled
about the things kids
say. I look forward to
getting my great
nieces for church ev-
ery Sunday, because
during the drive from
Reno to Deport we
have conversations
about some amazing
things, including a
lengthy discussion of
what we wanted done
with our bodies after
we die. (Cydney wants
hers sent ot Germany
to be cryogenically
preserved and put in
a medical display!)
One of my favorite
kid things was Nancy
Brown’s grandson,
Quinton when he was
little. He had been sit-
ting next to her with
this little hacking
cough. Finally she
said “Quinton, what is
the MATTER with
you?”. The little boy
hesitated, thought,
and looked up in all
seriousness and re-
plied “Hairball?”
Obviously, this kid
grew up around cats
like I did!
But perhaps the
best one so far hap-
pened at church re-
cently. Joey and Amy
Coleman’ girls were
sitting on the front
pew between Sunday
School and Church.
Payton is the
youngest, and Maddy
is the next one, age
wise. Payton is three,
Maddy four.
Payton was chatter-
ing away with me. I
was sitting beside her.
She raised up her little
skirt and said some-
thing I didn’t quite
catch. Her sister
translated with “She
wants you to look at
her panties”.
I looked and ex-
claimed “Why
Payton, they match
your flowered skirt,
how beautiful”. The
child grinned really
big.
Maddy then pro-
ceeded to raise up her
skirt and show me her
panties.
And, big blue eyes
shining at me with to-
tal innocence and
trust she announced
“Mine don’t match
my dress. But I’m
wearing them. You
know, Nanalee, you
just aren’t supposed
to come to church
without having on un-
derwear”.
Trying really hard
not to fall off the pew,
I kept a straight face
and replied as seri-
ously as she had “You
know, Maddy, you are
just exactly right. You
aren’t supposed to at-
tend church without
underwear”.
I then managed to
get up and scamper
away before I started
laughing.
I shared the story
with their mom, who
was horrified.
Why, though?
That’s the beauty of
children. They see the
world in a simple,
beautiful...and some-
times hilarious way!
It made my day, I
know that.

The annual special Vet-
erans Edition of the papers
will be in November. We
want your stories! It's as
simple as that. We want the
memories of veterans from
all wars, during peace time,
their families who stayed at
home waiting, and from
those who served in the
armed forces even if they
never left home soil or if
they were not part of a com-
bat unit.
We want stories from Viet
Nam, Desert Storm, peace-
time, Korea, World War II,
the war with Iraq, or any-
time in between We wel-
come good quality photo-
graphs. they should be jpegs
if e mailed, or on good pa-
per, not copy paper.
Thunder Prairie Publish-
ing would like to share the
memories of veterans ev-
erywhere with those who
want to hear those stories.
Many veterans think that
'no one cares or is inter-
ested". They are wrong. The
stories printed in our veter-
ans edition get used as school
teaching tools, as reminders
of sacrifices made, and as
reading material for thou-
sands.
It is one ofthe most looked
for and important editions
of our publishing year, and
we need YOUR help in
making it better.
With America still in a
military campaign, there are
sure to be some new stories,
and perhaps some veterans
will take the time to talk
about their personal stories
from long ago for the first
time.
Who knows what inspi-
ration may be found in a
story by someone?
There is NO CHARGE to
run a story or photograph.
