While we are still thinking and
talking about “Stephenville and her
future,” and hoping and wanting to
get new enterprises here that will
make us a nice little city, it might
be well to remark, that no town ever
developed a rapid growth, or ever
will as for that, unless her people
are a unit, or nearly so, about good
schools and every other enterprise
for the advancement of the town
The elements of success are iu our-
scItcs—not our neighbors. The
quest ion should be, is this or that for
the town’s good—not for my good
only, but is this or that for the town’s
good! If it is then it will be for
say good, too. If everybody pulls
his own way, regardless of anything
but himself, it is pretty sure we will
not have a million inhabitants soon.
Stephenville may never be a Chicago,
• St. Louis, nor even a great seaport
like Galveeton, but she can be a
nice, thriving hustling, pleasant city
of 4000 to 10,000 population within
the next few years, if our people get
together on questions of vital impor-
tance, such as schools, waterworks,
improvments of all kinds, and every-
thing that will build up the town
and develop the surrounding coun-

Tlie Storm King
Grievous reports regarding the
terrible work of the storm king
atill continue to coiuc in. Many
towns have been visited, and
almost wiped off the face of the
earth.
Sunday night the prosperous lit-
tle village of Alto, 10 miles from
Tyler, on the Tyler & Southeast-
ern road, was made a total wreck.
Every building was damaged, and
hundreds of people made home-
less. Two persons were badly in-
jured.
Saturday afternoon the peaceful
Tillage of Southmayd, in Grayson
county, was almost wiped out at
one fell swoop. Every building
shows the effect of the storm.
Gainesville suffered greatly from
the terrible winds of Saturday.
Several persons were wounded.
Four times in the last few days
Oklahoma territory has been vis-
ited by heavy storms. Friday last
a Storm swept over that country,
leaving in its wake devastation
and terror. Several were killed and
many wounded.
Many towns have been visited
by heavy winds, and crops have
been damaged by hail.
The City Council.
The city council met Monday
night and decided to assume con-
trol of the Bchool. A settlement
will be made with the old board
of trustees, after which teachers
will be employed.
No other business of importance
waa transacted.
A petition was signed first ol
