Maillard-Back. The first con-
cert will be Saturday night,
February 9 at 8:00 p.m. at the
Camille Playhouse, Brown-
sville; to be followed by a
Sunday matinee February 10
at 2:90 p.m. at Xochil Art and
Culture Center, 516 Doherty,
Mission.
Born in Mcallen, Delgado
received her Bachelor's de-
gree from the University of
Texas where she was a
scholarship student of Dalies
Frantz. Later as a student of
Sidney Foster, famed concert
pianist, she earned the
Master’s degree and the
Doctor of Music degree in 1976
from the Indiana University
School of Music. She was
awarded the Performer's
Certificate at Indiana Un-
iversity, and award given only
to the most outstanding music
graduates.
Dr. Delgado has been
presented in concert by the
Santa Fe Community Concerts
Association, a series of
concerts with the cellist, Ralph
Kirshbaum, sponsored by the
Texas Commission on the Arts;
numerous concert series of
Universities in Texas, Illinois,
Indiana and the Southern
states and recently a tour of
five Mexican cities sponsored
by the Mexican Cultural
Commission.
In the 1978-1979 concert
season Imelda Delgado made
her London debut in Wigmore
Hall and played concerts
throughout Great Britain.
While performing a large
and varied repertoire, Mrs.
Delgado is particulary re-
cognized for her interpretation
of Romantic and contemporary
music with a special affinity for
the Russian and South
American composers.
The “powerhouse pianist”
combines the careers of
concert pianist and teacher
when not on tour, and is artist
in residence at Del Mar
College in Corpus Christi. She
is also on the music faculty of
Corpus Christi State Un-
iversity. Recently Delgado-
performed at the Texas MusiC'
Te acher’s Association Annual
Convention in Corpus Christi
as guest artist and received a
standing ovation from her^

national reputation. Two years
after leaving the Royal College
of Music she won the
prestigious Maggie Teyte
Prize for her ability.
Miss Maillard-Back has
fulfilled many important en-
gagements including four at
the Royal Festival Hall-one
with the Philharmonia and
three with the Royal Phil-
harmonic Orchestra. One the
Continent she was attracted
much critical acclaim for her
performances which have
taken her some of Europe’s
major cities.
The artist had the distinction
of being the only non
Norwegian singer apart from
Elizabeth Soderstorm, to be
invited to give a recital in
Grieg’s house near Bergen.
Since then, she has toured the
country twice, obtaining ec-
static reviews such as this from
a Bergen critic; “The English
soprano made an excellent
impression. She looked lovely
and had a pure, very well
developed voice that was
perfectly suited to Lieder and
sounded beautiful in all
registers. ’Der Tod und das
madchen’ was breathtaking
and she ended her Schubert
group with a magnificent ’Ave
Maria’, revealing what a truly
outstanding artist she she.”

As everyone knows, Fm sure, the PSJA
School District is bringing a Bond election
before the people again. The issue is for
new buildings, new classrooms, and for
air-conditioning in the existing Elemen-
tary schools. I am not going to discuss the
pros and cons of the issue. As an “insider”
in the school district fcs much an “insider”
as any other student or employee of the
district) I, of course, have my own
decisions to make concerning the issue. I
will make my decision according to my
knowledge and experience in the
education field. My purpose is neither to
persuade nor to dissuade any reader to
vote for or against the issue. I would like
to express my views on elections and
voting in general
We are constantly faced with choices.
We must choose whether or not we will
get up in the morning and go to work, or
whether we will remain snug and warm in
bed until we are ready to get up. We are
faced with the choice of whether or not to
eat breakfast, and, once that is decided,
just what we would care to eat
More moment us decisions also confront
us when we decide upon marriage, the
doctor we want to attend to our physical
health, or how much money must be set'
aside for dentist and college bills for our
children. Many of the every-day choices
we make have become almost involuntary
reactions. We make choices without even
realizing we have done so.
If we choose to get up in the morning
and go to work, that decision is based upon
previous experience, information, or
desire. We realize that few employers
pay employees who simply do not show up
at work without prior notice. The desire
for the compensation for the' work we do is
an incentive to choose to get up and go to
work. However, it still remains that one
has a choice in the matter. If we are
willing to live with the consequences of
not going to work loss of pay, or perhaps
even loss of job) then we might choose to
stay in bed.
When the more momentous decisions
arise, we usually take a little more time
making our choice. The engagement
period prior to marriage is usually a good
time to review our feelings, our goals for
the future, our desires for family life, and
other factors. We consult our family, our
friends, and our intended for advice and
suggestions.
But, when it gets down to the actual
decision, we make up our own minds,
sometimes against the advice of friends
and loved-ones. The decisions we
ultimately make are based upon our own
personal desires, prejudices, goals, and
feelings.
Many of the decisions we make in life
are made in conjunction with an important
“other” in our lives, such as a parent or a
spouse. Plans for college are usually
discussed as a family-the cost, the distance
from home, the courses offered by the
college-these are factors influencing our
decisions. The choice of a new home for a
married couple is generally made by both
partners. These are decisions in which
others will be affected by our decisions.
There are some decisions, however,
that are very personal. They are
decisions each of us must decide for
ourselves according to our own beliefs and
values. One of these decisions is our
choices made when any kind of election
confronts us. There may be those who
disagree with me thank goodness), but I
believe that the vote is one of the few
privileges left to each of us in this
“non-privacy” world we live in.
The decisions I make in my own mind
cannot be invaded by anyone. There may
be ways to read someone’s mind existing
in the world today, but they are not
commonly used- YET. I can still inform
myself on the issues, compare the issues
with my own principles and values,
examine my personal prejudices, eonsidf?
how the issue will affect me personally as
well as others around me, and then go to
the polls and pull the lever I choose.
There is as yet no coercion or revelation of
my decision involved in the right to vote. I
can still exercise that guaranteed right
Regardless of my feelings for or against
the issue; regardless of your neighbors
views; regardless of your spouse’s views;
regardless of your boss’s views;
regardless of the opinions of friends; you
are still free to decide for yourself the
merits of an issue, and can cast your vote
accordingly.
Go to the polls and vote, according to
your conscience. Don’t allow that freedom
to be lost through failure to exercise it
