Large Turnout For B&PW Luncheon
In City Business and
Piulessional Women had a busy
weekend, on Sat. March 22 they
had their annual Taste of Mexico
Luncheon to benefit Mujeres
Unidas/Women Together. The
luncheon was once again held at
Plantation South. Approximately
300 men and women were served
taco salads that were prepared by
in t ity B&PW members.
Empanadas, pan de polvo and
lemonade were also served.
After the lunch, everyone enjoyed
the presentation by Pan American
Round Fable of Brownsville,
■ ■ y i • anted the Costumes of
the Americas, the beautifully
costumed models received much
applause as they strolled around
and the story was told behind
each costume and what the
different parts of clothing were
worn for. The China Poblana
was the favorite of most. This
years luncheon was the most
successful, with special thanks to
everyone who donated most of
the items needed for the
luncheon. The following day,
Sun. Mar. 23, Tri City B&PW
hosted spring rally for all valley
B&PW members. This was held
in Alamo at Trophy Gardens.
The meeting was called to order
by district director Edna Mae
Barrera, who introduced Alamo
Mayor Rudy Villarreal. Patty
Valentine from the Laguna Madre
Club was 'selected as Young
Careerist and Jacques Bernstein,
president elect of the McAllen
Club was selected as Woman of
the Year. Both will go to Dallas
for state competition in June.
Judges for Young Careerist and
Woman of the Year, Charlie
Garza and Robert Garza of
Alamo also Marie'Anderson from
San Benito.

with the two day affair were, Ms.

Aurelio Magallan
Army Sgt. Aurelio Magallan,
son of Aurora Magallan of 1410
S. State St., San Juan, Texas,
has been decorated with the third
award of the Army Achievement
Medal in West Germany.
The Achievement Medal is
awarded to soldiers for
meritorious service, acts of
courage, or other
accomplishments.
Magallan is a tracked-vehicle
mechanic with the 67th Air
Defense Artillery.

Spring Festival
The Sacred Heart Church of
Mercedes, Texas will be holding
their Annual Spring Festival. It
will be on Sunday, April 13,
1986 on the church grounds.
All events will begin at 4:00
p.m. and continue till 10:00 p.m.
We will have the coronation of
the king & queen of the festival.
We’ll also have game booths and
food booths. Come join in the
fun.
Migrant Health Services
Migrant Health Service, Inc.
provides primary health care to
migrant farmworkers and their
families who come to work in
Minnesota and North Dakota.
Our Board of Directors held two
meetings in Texas; one on
February 22 in Carrizo Springs
and one on February 23 in San
Juan. Following the discussions
we had at these meetings with the
farmworkers, these policies have
been adopted by the Board of
Directors.
1) Mutual of Omaha
hospitalization insurance:
a) cost of family coverage will
be $30 (if you have children over
the age of 19 years, they will
need to sign up at the individual
rate.)
b) The cost of individual
coverage will be $15.
2) MHSI registration and
voucher fees:
a) $3 to register your family
with MHSI and
b) $3 charge for each voucher
up to a maximum of $20 per
family. After reaching the $20 or
$10 (individual maximum) limit,
vouchers will be issued for no
charge to the patient.
Our health centers will be
located within the following
communities: Grafton, Hillsboro,
North Dakota; Crookston, Ada,
Moorhead, Breckenridge,
Montevideo, Olivia and Dodge
Center, Minnesota. Be sure to
stop in our offices.
Gem & Mineral Society
The Magic Valley Gem and
Mineral Society will meet on
Wednesday, April 16, 1986, at
the Community Building, 320 E.
8th, San Juan, at 7:30 p.m.
Visitors are welcome.

meet on that date at 7:00 p.m.
April Wedding-Mr. and Mrs. Arnulfo (Tatan)
Rodriguez Jr., of Mission announce the engagement
and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Sandra to
Fernando C. Mancias, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ramon
Mancias of Alamo. The couple will wed April 26 at 6
p.m. at Our Lady of Holy Rosary Catholic Church,
Mission. The bride-elect graduated from Mission High
School, received a B.S. in criminal justice from
Southwest Texas State University in 1981, and a
master of education in counseling and guidance from
Pan American University in 1984. She is employed at
Hidalgo County Juvenile Probation Dept. Her fiance
graduated from Pharr-San Juan-Alamo High School
and Pan American University with a B.A. in
government. He received a doctor of jurisprudence
from Washington & Lee University School of Law in
1979, and is self-employed with Ortiz, Mancias and
Garcia Law Firm.
FMC Royalty-The Texas Migrant Council (Pharr #2)
recently selected its winners in the King and Queen
ontest. Frumencio Salinas, III, son of Mr. and Mrs.
rrumencio Salinas, Jr., was selected King. Miss
Clarissa Quintanilla, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Benjamin Salinas, was selected Queen at the March
13th ceremonies.
Prince and Princess-Miss Perla Crystal Pitones,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Santiago Pitones, was
selected Princess of the TMC Contest. Juan Antonio
Gamez, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Juan Antonio Gamez
was selected Prince.
