prised to learn the ajiplication
was ajiproved and the funds
granted in short order ) These
funds are available if you want
to continue your education at
the college of your choice, in
quire at the Smithville Public
Library.
Watching television quiz
shows is an interesting past -
time also slightly educational,
if collecting answers is all you
want, but those who miss sim-
ple questions of what should be
general knowledge empha-
sizes the need for more “know
how" among those who would
make their mark in the world
When there are so many peo-
ple looking for good jobs it
is a shame not to present
yourself in the best possible
light The concensus of opin-
ions, expressed on interview
type shows, is that our young
jieople do not understand that
their employment depends on
their being worth their start-
ing salary to their employer.
And that their employment
should also afford a profit to the
employer. He is always in
the business of making a pro-
fit-not providing salaried
employment

The Society finances public
education programs, provides
scholarships for training of
professional personnel to staff
rehabilitation centers, and helps
provide for National research
into the causes and cures of
crippling conditions. Simpson
pointed out that all thes pro-
grams are important if Texas is
going to continue to provide the
best in rehabilitation services
for its own disabled citizens
During 1974, the Texas Easter
Seal Society provided treatment
and services for 20,lf>2 children
and adults who were in need of
assistance. Easter Seal ser-
vices are available to any dis-
abled person who can benefit
from help provided by the Eas-
ter Seal Society, and who do
not qualify for any other assis-
tance. Self-mailing requests
for assistance are available
through the Representative.
The Easter Seal Campaign
will continue through Easter
Sunday, March 30.

Legion, Auxiliary
Birthdays To Be Celebrated
Members of the American
Legion and Auxiliary in reg-
ular meeting session Thursday,
February 6, 1979, voted to send
two of Smithville's Junior girls
from the Independent School
District to Blue Bonnet Girls
State meeting at Seguin in June,
1975.
Mrs Dorothy Renick, Blue
Bonnet Girls State chairman for
the Auxiliary will contact the
Smithville High School for the
assistance and participation of
selecting the Junior girl
showing the most marked
quality of Leadership, the prime
requisite for selection
The Auxiliary also agreed to
assist the Robert L Steffens
Post with birthday participation
in celebrating their fifty-fifth
anniversary. The members
opted for the traditional
covered dish dinner. This date
will also mark the 50th birth-
day of the Auxiliary.
The American Legion was or-
ganized March 17, 1919at Paris,
France and the members
met for their first convention
in November of that same year
in Minneapolis where they were
greeted by a furious snowstorm.
In 1975 it is hoped the weather
on their birthday will be more
pleasant, getting the Legion-
naires and their friends out
while also protecting the beau-
tiful jiear, plum and jieach
blossoms that have already ap-
peared.
Mrs. Jewell Renick also ap-
pointed a committe to assemble
and write the history of the
Auxiliary for a Bicentennial
contribution. Mrs. Hazel Love-
lace, a Charter member of the
Unit, Mrs. Hattie Wotijika, and
Mrs. Thelma Davison comprise
the committee. Pertinent facts
concerning the early days of
the Unit Activities will be ap-
preciated when dates are as-
certained and names of jiersons
involved are reported.

J. C. Honor Band
Twenty six Blinn College
students have been selected for
the Texas Junior College
Teacher’s Association Honor
Band. The annual convention
will be held on February 19-
22 in Houston.
This year’s selected students
will be conducted by Dr. Gary
Garner of West Texas State Uni-
versity in Canyon, Texas. Dr.
