Bullet Aimed for Another
Goes Through His Clothes
W. II. Christian is in Chicago
where many years of 1;is earlier
life were spent, and it is a fine
vacation he is having as he mixes
and mingles with the friends and
comrades of long ago. He sends
the Empire a picture of the Chicago
Tribune building, which is larger
than the Empire office by some
thirteen stories, to say nothing of
it being wider and longer._
United .States Senate J0ft Davis
of Arkansas, who is to speak here
next Wednesday, had a close call
in a court room at Little Rook a
few days back. A man whom Mr.
Davis was representing in a certain
civil proceeding, was tired upon
by the other party to the suit, and
died almost instantly from tin
wounds The bullet passed through
Mr. Davis’ clothing as it sped on
its mission of death. The press
dispatches say that Mr. Davis
“made a hasty exit from the court
room, leaving his coat hat and
cane, and that there was a regular
stampede among the spectators and
many narrow escapes from injury.”
W. Y. Ellis of Pine Bluff did the
shooting and his victim was Parkei
Willis of Indiana, a prominent pol-
itician,___
