We painted the office last week. It
peeded it. The leaky roof that was fix-
ed last year had provided the walls
with long brown streaks, the ceiling
tiles looked like they had served for
a tobacco spitting contest (water
stains, again) and the places whee we
had moved things hanging on the
\yalls revealed pale patches of clean
(t>y comparison) paint.
The painting was uneventful. The.
resultant cleaning is probably typical.
The new paint necessitated some
furniture moving, which meant clean-
ing out some stuff crammed into the
back recesses of drawers and shelves.
I swear, we found an American flag
so old it only had thirteen stars!
Well, if you don’t believe that one,
right alongside of it was a Texas flag
so old that it served at the battle of
San Jacinto.
; But, seriously, the stuff we threw
out was old, unused and dirty. Still,
we hated to part with it, and didn't
with all of it.
< After the walls and ceilings looked
so good, the furniture looked awfully
dirty. So, we enameled all the wooden
bookcases, cabinets and copy
drawers.
Those ancient pieces of wooden fur-
niture were actually made from old
shoe crates....one shelf unit even has
a wild peacock decorated panel of
wall paper on the back. They have
been, not necessarily in order, grey,
brown, green, bright yellow, beige
and now dark blue.
Of course, when the wooden fur-
niture looked bright and nice, the
metal desks and tables looked dirty.
So, we dug out the cleaner and started
scrubbing THEM!
It seemed like a never ending
snowball situation. Finally, things put
back in place, desks scrubbed, fur-
niture painted, walls and ceilings all
nic^ and neat, we looked at the whole
thing with something closely akin to
relief!
Orly thing is, now that concrete
floor looks really grubby. That
means, you guessed it, we’re going to
have to paint the FLOOR!

of Harleton in the final quarter cost
the Rebelettes the game. Harleton
captured the win, hitting for 16 points
in the final quarter to the Rebelettes’
five.

Norman and Shelaphon Simmons
with five each, Dara Stephenson with

Judge, Commissioners
Races Heating Up
With the filing deadline now past.
Red River County races appear to be
lively and “heating up”.
Clarksville Mayor L.D. Williamson
has challenged incumbent William S.
“Scotty” Whiteman in the race for
Red River County Judge.
Whiteman became judge August 20,
1982, filling the unexpired term of
Connie Sullivan-Stauter, who resign-
ed. He was re-elected in the fall of
1982.
Challenger Williamson is employed
as manager of Clarksville’s Perry
Brothers store and has been mayor of
Clarksville for six years.
He is a strong proponent of bring-
ing a Texas Department of Correc-
tions facility to Red River County in
the belief that it will bring much need-
ed revenue to the county.
Precinct 1 Commissioner Bobby
Dickey of Bogata, against H. Drue
Pirtle of Johntown, also promises to
be another heated contest.
Pirtle was elected to a four-year
term as Precinct 1 Commissioner in
1983, but ws forced to resign in
September of 1985 because of a pro-
blem with his serving on the Talco-
Bogata CISD school board.
Dickey was appointed to fill the seat
by Judge Whiteman.
Both Dickey and Pirtle are pursu-
ing active campaigns.
CLEANING THEM OUT-The
Texas Highway Department has
been cleaning out ditches this past
North Main. Heavy rainfalls after
a long dry spell have left many
water runoffs clogged. (Staff
