Sheriff Smith gave his re-
port informing the County of
jailer/reserve deputy Kevin
Wingfield Jr. and his burial on
Saturday.
“We hate to lose someone,”
said Sheriff Smith on his pass-
ing. His department is suffer-
ing as three deputies and a dis-
patcher have all resigned for
better paying positions outside
of Delta County.
“We understand, luckily we
have had good applicants for
the positions,” said the sheriff
on the young new officers.
Treasurer Bonnie Hobbs
received agreement for a line
item transfer to pay NETDATA
in the amount of $2,000 from
contingency for the portage
box to connect her computer
to the server. It is cost-saving
as opposed to the alternative
of a larger server purchase. It
is a one-time fee. During her
report she stated the County
has just over $1.7 million in
the account which is more than
last year. The County received
a small stipend for overweight
vehicles.
Tax Assessor-Collector
Dawn Stewart gave her report.
Over 92 percent of delinquent
accounts have been collected.
County Attorney Jay Garrett
reported there was not court
in July, and court will be held
twice in August. Hot check
funds were collected for A 1
Stop in amount of $276.15,
Delta Supermarket $791.50,
First Stop Food Mart $117.30
and Milano’s Pizza $78.00 for
a total of $1,262.95.
Cases submitted by the
Delta County Sheriff’s Office
were one Alcoholic Bever-
age in Dry Area, one Driving
While License Invalid; Texas
Department of Public Safety
issued one Driving While Li-
cense Invalid. Cases filed with
Clerk were one each of Driving
While License Invalid, JP Ap-
peal-Fail to Maintain Financial
Responsibility and Possession
Controlled Substance.
Precinct 3 Commissioner
Loyd Vandygriff explained the
conditions of County Roads
3080 and 3075. Commissioner
Vandygriff said a meeting was
just recently held with Judge
Brookshire and Jim Harris. It
was agreed the work on CR
3080 will be completed on
Sept. 2.
Commissioner Vandygriff
invited the other commission-
ers to review the condition of
CR 3075 to decide how to fur-
ther proceed.
During public participation
Bob Egert approached the
Court about his concerns for
CR 3080 by reading aloud an
excerpt from The Paris News
published in March of 2005. It
was an editorial about the is-
sues involved in the repairs to
the road - access to the land,
the excessive funds ($105,000
in 2002) spent to repair the
bridge located on the road and
safety regarding emergency
personnel ability to traverse
the road. The editorial was in
response to a prior article re-
ferring to the “big ol’ mess”
known as CR 3080 written by

The Paris News, in February
2005.
No action but consideration
was made on a request by Der-
rell London for a $500 budget
for the Economic Develop-
ment Corp, the preliminary
budget for the Appraisal Dis-
trict (the DCAD will meet on
Thursday at 5:30 p.m.), and
the consolidation of county
election precincts for Nov. 5,
2013 (if possible and legal to
just have one box open at the
Courthouse instead of sever-
al locations - if so the Court
agreed to the change).
The Court accepted the
adoption of a banking resolu-
tion with First National Bank
and the checking signing pow-
ers of Bonnie Hobbs and Jane
Jones.
Beginning the Pledge of Al-
legiance was Wanda Brook-
shire, wife of Judge Brook-
shire, accompanied by their
four grandchildren.
month. The Club voted to offi-
cially move the regular meet-
ing to noon on the second and
fourth Thursdays.
Vice President Melissa Mil-
lard addressed old business
and a motion was passed to
purchase replacement Ameri-
can flags for display on the
Square. She estimated the
Club needs 12 new ones. It
was suggested purchasing
support poles from Highway
24 Lumber.
The Club will be placing
the flags out again on Labor
Day, Sept. 2.
CISD Superintendent De-
nicia Hohenberger gave a
request for eye glasses for
CISD graduate and Lions
Club volunteer piano player
Tristan Love.
Scotty Stegall broke out
the fine bucket. As Club Tail
Twister he fined Herb Brook-
shire for arriving late, and
Mark Sandlin for not prepar-
ing a program. Luckily, they
were minor fines.
Chessher and Millard re-
ported on their visit to Mine-
ola for a Cl ub Regional meet-
ing. There the duo received
important information and
two directories. Millard dis-
persed copies from the Lions
website for ways to help with
recruiting.
Opening the meeting the
members sang in unison the
Club song - a resounding,
“So, Roar Lions! Bite 'em!
Bite 'em! Bite 'em! Don't you
hear those lions?” could be
heard echoing from the halls.
The Club welcomed guests
Diane Stegall and Carol Low-
ery, each opted to officially
sign up as members. Scotty
Stegall and his wife Diane
provided a delicious chicken
spaghetti meal and home-
made pie for the meeting. Di-
ane will be providing the next
program on Thursday, Sept.
12 at the Bulldog Cafe l ocated
at the Cooper High School.
