We are still having lovely
weather in the East End, but
it could change at any time.
We are really needing a good
rain.
The Lamar/Delta Retired
Teachers and other School
Employees met Monday,
April 22 in the Paris Jr. Col-
lege Ballroom at 11 o’clock.
The buffet line started at that
time. The program included
the presentation of scholar-
ships, reports on the state
convention, results of the
livestock shows in Lamar
and Delta counties, and the
Children’s Book Project. The
Lamar/Delta Retired Teach-
ers Executive Committee met
Thursday, April 25 at the Col-
lege Church of Christ to plan
the District Meeting which
will be Thursday, May 2.

Klondike News
By John & Elizabeth Hopkins
The Klondike Volunteer
Fire Department fish fry was
a rousing success - again,
thanks in no small part to the
participation of so many Delta
County residents. There was a
great turnout so the department
actually did run out of fish!
There were 169 people served
before that happened and the
department estimates $2,100.00
after expenses. Part of that was
from the cake auction which
brought in $230.00+/-. Besides
good food, everyone enjoyed
the great music from the Three
Rusty Nails Band and got to
see the new fire engine recently
acquired from the Nevada fire
department. Joe Wetzel was
here from Nevada to answer
questions about the engine.
Thanks to everyone who came
to eat, donated cakes or pies
and special thanks to KVFD
sponsors: Wal-Mart, Delta
Supermarket, Brookshire’s
Grocery and Dairy Queen.
Mabel Wheat had Hershal
and Bennie from Chappell Hill
here to take her to a doctor’s
appointment (good report from
that) and then again for the
funeral of Dorothy Bridges.
Stella Martin had calls from
Nadine Ivy and Darlene Moore
this week.
Patricia Blundell heard from
all her children this week.
Jerry and Janet Currin had
Jason and Jennifer come in for
the fish fry.
Larry George and Misty were
married on April 13. They
honeymooned on a cruise that
included stops in Key West,
Florida, and Freeport and
Nassau, Bahamas. They are
trying to get back to normal
but having a bit of trouble -
the day they returned home
the refrigerator went out and
a few days later, they replaced
their washer and dryer!
Congratulations to you both!
Maggie Thomas had Mike
and Lina come on Monday for a
visit. Then on Thursday night,
Maggie had 8 poeple for a
neighborhood prayer meeting.
On Saturday Maggie, Glovon,
and Jean went to the fish fry at
West Delta Community Center.
Maggie said the food was good
and the music was great. It was
so good to visit with friends
from neighboring communities
and watch the children dancing
to the music. Audrey Fay and
Buckner were there. Daughter
Nelda was out of town but
Nelda’s husband was kind
enough to chauffer her parents.
Sunday was the first day of the
Go, Tell Crusade. Maggie,
Glovon and Jean attended. It
seemed that the whole section
of seating was full. There
were many professions of
faith following the message.
Saturday was Youth Night at
the Crusade and there were
86 professions of faith then.
There are going to be a lot of
new Christians who will need
teaching and mentoring from
older Christians and churches
out there.
Don’t forget about the two
benefit garage sales coming
up. The Klondike Volunteer
Fire Department will host a
sale on consecutive weekends:
May 10-11 and May 17-18.
This sale will begin about
7 a.m. and close at 5 p.m.
Donations are being accepted
now. Contact Janet Currin at
903-395-2107 or Jerry Wood at
903-517-4057 for more details
or to arrange drop-off. The
other sale will be May 10-11
at 5669 FM 1528 (the Blundell
homesite). All procedes from
this sale will go to New Life
Baptist Church for new chairs
and for the youth missions trip
this summer.

North Hopkins School's
community meeting set for
Thursday, May 2 has been
postponed.
Linda and Mick Petty took
a short trip to Fredericksburg
last week. The first night they
stayed with Ken and Suzi
Chapman in Belton and en-
joyed dinner, a great visit then
a great breakfast. From there
they went to Austin and had
lunch with Chris and Robin
Petty and saw their beautiful
new home. Then on to Freder-
icksburg for some sightseeing
and a hamburger at the Alamo
Street Cafe. On the way home
they stopped to visit an old
friend Delores Penny, whom
they had not seen for about 30
years. Linda says, “Nice road
trip but always glad to return
to Tira.” On Sunday afternoon
Mick and Rick met Ken in Ar-
lington and went to the Rang-
ers game. It was a beautiful
day for baseball and the Rang-
ers won.
Daylee Fite’s team “The
Horns” played their 6^ soft-
ball game this week. Mike
and Valaree Fite and Sandra
Wester were there to see her
play. On Friday night Kathy
Day attended the winning game
along with Sandra. So far they
are undefeated. Sherry Smiddy
returned from another week
in Chicago. They had horrible
storms and flooding and on the
last day it was snowing. Sherry
comments, “The weather there
is as unpredictable as Texas
weather!”
