Denton County Master
Gardener Spring Plant Sale
will be Saturday, April 13
The Denton County Master Gardener Association will
hold its annual plant sale at 6333 Hobson Lane in Denton
from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday April 13.
Shoppers can choose from a wide selection of hard-to-
find grasses and ground covers, tough-as-nails perennials,
herbs and pass-along plants from the yards of Master Gar-
deners. The sale will include a wide selection Earth-Kind
Roses, which are among the most thoroughly tested and
environmentally responsible plants for use in Texas land-
scapes. Earth-Kind Roses do well in most any soil type and
do not suffer the same disease and insect problems found in
other rose plants.
The Master Gardeners’ Garden Shoppe will be open,
offering pots, garden art and tools. Veteran Master Garden-
ers will be on hand to offer landscaping advice, recommen-
dations on plant care and tips on using herbs in cooking.
All money raised from the sale helps fund local DC-
MGA educational activities including Children’s Arbor
Day, The Children’s Garden, Denton’s annual Vegetable,
Flower, Herb & Fruit Show, the Speaker’s Bureau and the
Bayless-Selby Victorian Garden.
In the past, the plant sale was part of the organizations’
annual Spring Garden Tour held the Saturday before Moth-
er’s Day. But the two events are now held on different days
so garden lovers can both shop and tour at leisure.

Local residents, kids invited
to Denton Texas Storytelling
Festival March 7-10
The 28th Annual Texas Storytelling Festival will be
held March 7-10, 2013 at the Denton Civic Center, 321 E.
McKinney St.
The 2013 Featured Storytellers listed below will join
with Tejas storytellers for a lineup of concerts, Ghost Sto-
ries and Sacred Tales that are bound to fill up your heart and
leave your body limp with laughter.
Andy Offutt Irwin - Some people have "inner-kids."
Featured teller Andy Offutt Irwin has an "outer-kid." With a
manic Silly Putty voice, astonishing mouth noises and hilar-
ious stories, he is equal parts mischievous schoolboy and all
of the Marx Brothers, seasoned with a touch of the South-
ern balladeer. You'll laugh till your face hurts.
DeCee Cornish - DeCee Cornish is best described as an
"urban griot". He brings to life African and African-Ameri-
can history and folklore with compelling eloquence. Street
smart and side splitting, his tall tales have taken top prizes at
Liars Contests throughout the state. A Touring Artist for the
Texas Commission on the Arts, DeCee works extensively
with at risk youth.
Willy Claflin - Back by popular demand, Willy Claflin
will be accompanied by his sidekick Maynard Moose. (Or
is it the other way around? It's hard to tell.) Master of the
fractured fairytale, Willy has delighted children and adults
across the nation. Maynard's picture book The Uglified
Ducky won the Bluebonnet Award for the most popular
children's book in Texas in 2011.
Motoko and Esliu Bumpus - A native of Osaka, Japan,
Motoko first came to the United States as an exchange stu-
dent. She has shared the beauty and charm of her Japanese
folktales at the National Storytelling Festival and on "Mister
Rogers' Neighborhood". Her personal stories of girlhood in
Japan are evocative and deeply moving.
Accompanying Motoko will be our Special Guest Eshu
Bumpus. Eshu is a renowned storyteller, an accomplished
jazz vocalist and a master of physical characterization.
His African tales are filled with music, humor and mystery
that created 36 sold-out performances at the Smithsonian.
Working with his partner Motoko, the sum is greater than
the parts.
