Differences reported
in baby sleep patterns
There are siqnificant differ-
ences between the sleep patterns
of breast-fed and formula-fed in-
fants.
Studies conducted at the
USDA's Children's Nutrition Re-
search Center at Baylor College
of Medicine in Houston found
that 4-month-old breast-fed in-
fants spent more sleep time in a
"quiet” cycle called NREM non-
rapid eye movement) than did
formula-fed infants.
Formula-fed infants spent
more time in the REM (rapid eye
movement) cycle.
"This is another piece of the
puzzle that appears to support
increasing evidence that the way
a baby is fed may impact growth
and development," said Dr.
Nancy Butte of the CNRC.

rebuilt when they are destroyed, so
God gives us the opportunity to
rebuild our lives and even the lives
of others
What a wonderful challenge this is
for all believers -• helping God to
rebuild the “ruined places.”
As we are doing this, we know that
it is really God who is doing it
through us And we have the promise
of God that “I, Ihe Lord, have spoken
it, and I will do it.”
-Buddy Preuss

74 )
What happens when life strikes us
a blow9 Do we crumble and just fall
apart?
What about those times when we
bring problems on ourselves9 Who
do we blame - ourselves, God or
others?
What happens when we are too
weak to resist temptation?
These are all times when it's quite
apparent that we aren’t nearly as
smart as we thought we were It’s a
time of disappointment and is
awfully depressing if we don't have
anyone to turn to for help
When we stumble, that's a good
time to admit that we’re human and
a long way from being perfect
But God doesn’t expect us to be
perfect. What He does expect us to
be is dependent on Him
That's not a sign of weakness on
our part, but a sign of strength. It
takes faith to quit fighting losing
battles and let God take over
When something is ruined,
whether it’s our plans or something
else that didn't work out like we
expected it to, it’s easy to give up
and walk away.
The same thing holds true of what
nature destroys. Tornadoes, hurri-
canes, floods, fires and earthquakes
may destroy homes, businesses and
other property, but unless our faith
is destroyed along with it. all those
things can be rebuilt.
In fact, it probably takes more
faith to rebuild something than it
does to build it in the first place.
Listen to the Word of God in the
Old Testament book of Ezekial:
"Then the nations around you
shall know that I. the Lord, have
rebuilt the ruined places I, the
Lord, have spoken it, and I will do it”
1 Ezekial 36:36).
Yes. the Lord does indeed rebuild
the ruined places through the faith of
those who don’t give up It is this
kind of fervent faith that allows us to
evenutally triumph and succeed
instead of accepting defeat when
things seem to be going wrong
There is also no such thing as a
ruined life in the sight of God Any
life, no matter how hopelessly ruined
it may seem to be, can be salvaged
with the help of the Lord
When something is ruined or
destroyed, those with faith in God
look at it as an opportunity to build
something better in its place.
And just as buildings can be
