Mrs. Lila Keck and her 6th, 7th, and 8th grade math students at Montague ISD worked
on a Thanksgiving math lesson. They had to take classroom objectives and apply them
to real world happenings and daily life. They were given a budget and had to plan a
Thanksgiving meal, using flyers from various grocery stores and create a report. They
did an awesome job figuring items to buy, planning the meal for a certain number of
people, planning the ingredients for various dishes and applying the appropriate tax.

Montague County Deputy
District Clerk Tammy
Brown of Montague suf-
fered a broken leg and head
injuries Friday, Nov. 16,
morning as she walked to
work when she was struck
by a county-owned pickup
being driven by courthouse
maintenance supervisor
Larry Marshall, 57, of
Bowie.
According to DPS Troop
Brandon Neff, who investi-
gated the accident, Ms.
Brown was attempting to
cross Franklin Street (south
side of the courthouse) at the
Grant Street intersection at
about 7:55 a.m. Friday as
Marshall had backed out of a
parking space and was
attempting to travel west on
Franklin.
"She wasn't in a designat-
ed crosswalk. That lead to a
factor on the crash report of
pedestrian failed to yield
right of way to vehicle,"
Trooper Neff said explain-
ing, ''If there had been a des-
ignated crosswalk then it
would have been failure of
the vehicle to yield right of
way to the pedestrian."
"It has within 15 feet of
the parking spot, so he was-
n't going fast at all," Neff
described. No citations were
issued in the incident.
