Christmas Parade & Tree-Lighting
First United
Methodist
Church of
Point
For this the second Sunday
of Advent, Matt Merphant
served as our acolyte. We were
blessed to have Ray Abu Salim
provide us with his wonderful
music. Hopefully by next
Sunday he will have time to
prepare a special for us to
enjoy.
During our announcements/-
opportunities it was noted the
pastor, Mike Wilkie, will not
be with us next Sunday as he
takes a much needed time of
rest following mid-term exam
week. We will have the
pleasure of welcoming Rev.
Phillip Wolfe and wife Carol to
our Sunday worship. Rev.
Wolfe is a fellow student of
Bro. Mike’s from Perkins
School of Theology, SMU,
Dallas.
This week the ladies’ prayer
group will meet in the home of
Mary Rabb for our Christmas
party at 10:00 a.m., Wed., Dec.
11 th. We will reveal and redraw
for secret prayer sisters for the
next quarter. If you have
forgotten what you are to
bring, please give Mary a call.
Prayers were asked for those
who are undergoing medical
tests and those having already
received their results. Prayers
were asked for the family of
Belle McDonald, and for Bro.
Mike’s dear friend John Knox
Hill of Lafayette, LA., who is
gravely ill. His wishes are to
remain at home with his family
rather than being hospitalized.
' We gave prayers today for
Bradley Clark, a good friend of
Matt Merchant, as he visited
Sunday school and church with
Matt.
Our choir did an outstanding
job for our special today. Their
many hours of practice time
was in evidence.
, ^Special music today was
provided by Beth Fortson.
Pastor Gene Witt’s message
today was from Eph. Praises
were offered as he was able to
be in the pulpit ioday, as he
has not been well all week.
Our list of those in special
needs of thoughts and prayers
continues to grow quite long.
So many ill or with tragedies
in their lives in our
community, especially nearing
the season when we need to
remember the “reason for the
season.”
Our youth are looking for-
ward to the parade in Emory
tonight. Their float is ready.
Remember Dec. 14th is the
luncheon for revealing secret
pal and new names drawn.
Also, on Dec. 14th, play
practice for the children will be
at 4:00 p.m. Birthday party at
Green Acres is on Dec. 18th.
Point Baptist and Emory
Baptist Church will be spon-
soring an “angel tree" for the
Spanish Mission children;
more details later.
Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace. Luke 2:14a

Fifth Sunday singing and
candlelight services will be

center. All area churches are
urged to attend as we near the
end of 1996 and prepare in
worship and fellowship to-
gether to welcome 1997. We
will gather at 5:30 p.m. for
light refreshments of cookies,
coffee/tea provided by the la-
dies of the churches. Singing
and praise will begin promptly
at 6:00 p.m.
Good
Samaritans
Good Samaritans board to
meet Tuesday afternoon, Dec.
10th at 2:00 p.m. in the fel-
lowship hall of Emory Metho-
dist Church for regular monthly
meeting.
In January, 1997, we will
begin meeting every month at
First Baptist Church in Emory.
Point Tree
Lighting
The tree lighting in Point
last week gathered a large at-
tendance. The Star Steppers
from RISD and their leaders
performed for us. They were
enjoyed by all. Santa made his
appearance much to the delight
of all, especially the little ones
and prayer given by Richard
Kellam of Point church of
Christ. A good time was had
by all. The refreshments-
provided by the ladies were
certainly enjoyable.
With Sympathy
We were saddened to learn of
the death of Verda Belle
McDonald. Our heartfelt
sympathy to the family.
