News
Katy Thedford
Our hearts were made sad
this week by the death of Fines
Harrell. He was a well-liked
person and a twin brother to
Dude Northcutt. Pray for his
loved ones who will miss him.
We had a good service Wed.
night Bro. Parker spoke from
Luke, Sun. mornings was from
II Tim., and Sun. night's was
from Phil. We had several spe-
cial songs and a good atten-
dance.
We had several visitors, and
some who had not been there in
a while. Lora Mae Springer and
James Pat Foreman were visit-
ing their mother, Sybil Nail, and
to attend the Northcutt reunion.
It was good to see Lana Parker
& Betty Jenke, Ruth Middleton,
and Sandy High and her friend,
Donna. Sandy had hurt her foot
and wasn't able to drive to
Emory.
When I was down at Rocky
Point Saturday, I saw Elbertine
Luckett, Jo Ann Pounds, Esta
Mae Peeples, Katie McCravy,
Lee Ivie and Elsa Abney. They
all live around Emory, but I
hadn't seen them in a while; all
looked real nice.
C.E. and Nina Dale came and
spent the day last Wednesday. I
am always glad to see them.
There nave been many prayer
requests this past week. God
knows who and what everyone
of them is, so be sure and pray.
We have prayer meeting
every Thursday night. Anyone
that wants to is welcome to
come and pray with us.
"It is better to be known as
someone who is disagreeable
than to be known as dishonest."
Take care, love and be good
to one another. God bless us all.

Sunday August 18, we
celebrated the Twelfth Sunday
after Pentecost at Emory
U.M.C. Our sanctuary was full
and the presence of the Lord
was felt.
Wilma Wade served as our
liturgist and led us in the call
to worship. Our ushers were
Van Vanaeventer and Larry
Culberson. Acolytes were
Michael Culberson and Nathan
Diller. We enjoyed the instru-
mental music by Nell Click
and Garth Looney as they
accompanied our congrega-
tional singing.
Judy Sorsby directed the
choir as they sang. We were
really glad to have our choir
back after their summer breaks.
David helped the children
realize how important prayer is
to help set our priorities, guide
our lives and help us serve the
Lord and others. His sermon
was from Matthew 14:22-33.
Prayer requests were for
Marie Johnson, Troy and
Melodee Hartog, Robby and
Christy, Roger and Dorthy
Johnson, J.C. and Winifred
Duke, Inez Hughes, Buster and
Rosemarie Southarjl, Kimberly
and Michael Watkins, Frances
Austin, college students
leaving this week, Amber
Zirges, Rosemary Freeze. We
heard of the joy of a new

"Heal me oh Lord and I shall
be healed, save me and I shall
be saved, for thou art my
praise" Jer. 17:14.
Today .we had a beautiful
service at Shady Grove. Bro.
William was able to be back in
church.
I awoke this morning to find
that our garden rows had lots of
water standing in the middle.
God had sent us some rain we
sure thank him for that because
we really did need a rain.
Bro. kip Knowles preached
for us today. He is so very
good. I'm so proud to know the
Lord has just called him to
preach and ne preached his first
sermon at Shady Grove in June
at our revival. Mrs. Knowles
was my second grade teacher
She always wore a beautiful
smile.
Margaret Molidor and
Elizabeth McMinn played the
piano and Donna McCullar led
the singing. Specials sang

The Friendship class had
100% attendance plus 1 visitor.
Dottie Ford had a successful
surgery. Praise God.
We want to recognize the
Sunshine Circle also. This is a
dedicated group of ladies who
wilt for the Lord. They recently
raised the remainder of the
money for our new air
condition units.
Have a wonderful week in
the Lord and feel welcome to
visit our church anytime.

Mrs. Modean Lane was a
visitor in the Leader office to
renew a subscription to the
Rains County Leader for her
son, Joe Jones Jr. of Duncan-
ville for a birthday remem-
bance.
It was good to wake up to the
sounds of rain this Lord's day
qpd we are so thankful.
I have been helping in chil-
dren's church when needed and
sometimes miss the sanctuary
service, but a good Sunday
school lesson, -ntitled "God
Our Redeemer" was reported
from the adult Bible class,
taught by Charles Brumit.
1ne pastor's.message for Sun-
day rooming was taken from
Jonah entitled "What's The
Problem, Jonah?” I will need to
get the tape.
We had an awesome service
Sunday night with Bro. Calk
preaching on "Five Steps to
Spiritual Power," from Eph.
Our hearts are always blessed
with special singing and music
in every service here at Free-
dom. Specials Wednesday night
were by Shirley Hall and Sandy
Sauceman, and on Sunday
morning, the Ishmaels, and
Sunday night, Billy Pritchett,
Marion Phillips and David Holt.
"Train up a child in the way
he should go, and when he is
old, he will not depart from it."
Prov. 22:6.
Children's church is a good
thing. The preschoolers and
kindergarten classes gather each
Sunday at 10 a.m. in the fellow-
ship hall to have church with
Pastor Steven Coffman and
wife, Peggy. They minister for
45 minutes with singing, Bible
stories and skits. The puppets,
Molly and Cracker Jack, sang
songs today. They have a 15
minute snack time before going
to their classrooms with their
teachers for more learning
activities, like coloring, draw-
ing, making crafts and other fun
things.
Pastor Coffman ministers to
the pre-teens from 11 a.m. dll 12.
If you are looking for a
church home and good classes
for your children, we invite you
to consider Freedom Church.
Pray for children's church and
for a full-time pre-teen teacher.
Verlene House is home from
the hospital, but we need to lift
her up in prayer in hopes she
will gain strength and be better
soon.
We were thrilled to have Sis.
Barker in church Wed. night.
She has been in the nursing
home, but is able to be home
again. Keep her and Bro. Barker
in your prayers.
It's good to hear Bro William
Potts is doing better. Continue
to pray for good health for all
those that are still having diffi-
culties.

What God Is
Doing At
Emory Baptist
Church
Another busy week has come
and gone and another one has
begun.
Next Sunday is our second
annual "Round-Up Sunday"
here at EBC and we are looking
for another good one. Reunions
are a great time. It is wonderful
to see people you haven't seen
in a long time. Our Round-Up
Sunday is a Sunday School
Reunion.There are people who
haven't been to Sunday School
and worship in a while that we
want to encourage to come
back. This week is an intensive
effort to contract every Sunday
School member by calls,
visits, sending cards, and even
when you see each other on the
street or in the stores. As you
see one another say, "See you
in Sunday School Sunday."
That night we will have an
old-fashioned singing. We have
many fine soloists.trios and

Sorry we didn’t have our news
in last week’s paper. Our re-
porter was out of town on a trip
to Abilene.
On Wednesday, Aug. 7, Bro.
Walker, Director of State Mis-
sions of the BMA, came and
spoke to our church about state
missions. We will be having a
foreign missionary coming in
the near future to show us slides
and tell about the foreign mis-
sion fields. Be watching for the
date and time.
We were glad to have Jerry &
Lana Carlisle with us Sunday
night. We missed them. They
both stay busy working.
Bro. Lee’s message Sunday
morning was taken from Matt.
4:18-25 and 5:1-18. Sunday
night’s message was from Matt.
5:43-48.
We were glad to see our for-
mer pastor, Bro. Carl Samples
of Eagewood, last week wnen
he was in town to renew the
subscription for Mrs. Willie
Mae Jonnson of Dallas.
Remember to pray for the sick
and bereaved and, as Jesus tells
Us in the sermon on the mount,
pray for those who persecute
you and despitefully use you.
Love your enemies, for in so
doing they are heaping coals of
fire on their own heads.
See you all next week, Lord
willing and the saints don’t rise!
