Picnic Supper
Miss Loretta temple and
Mrs. Dewey Acker hosted a
picnic supper on Sunday
evening to honor their niece
and her family, the Jerry
Kites of Cincinnatti, Ohio.
Tonsilectomy
Miss DeeAnn Franklin,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Rex Franklin, had a tonsil-
ectomy performed Tuesday
morning.
Victim Of
Drowning
Funeral services were Ju-
ly 15 for Cornelio Garces,
former local resident, who
drowned in Elk Grove Vil-
lage, 111., July 8.
He was buried in the Mer-
cedes Catholic Cemetery
following a mass at Our Lady
of Mercy Catholic Church in
Mercedes.
Mr. Garces, 40, is surviv-
ed by his wife, Mrs.Tomasa
H. Garces; four sons, Ar-
mando, Antonio Albino, Rey-
naldo, and Rogelio; and a
daughter Maria Elena. He is
also survived by his mother
Mrs. Rosa Garces of Mer-
cedes.
Other survivors include
his sisters, Mrs. Lupe Cas-
taneda, Mrs. Margarita G.
Cuellar and Mrs. Jaunita
Maldonado; and his bro-
thers, Albino Garces, Eli-
baldo Garces, Refugio Gar-
ces and Clemente Garces.
Rites For
Mrs. Castro
Mrs. Teresa Castro, who
died in a San Antonio hos-
pital July 13, was buried in
the Mercedes Catholic Ce-
metery following a funeral
mass at 10 a.m. July 17.
Mrs. Castro was born
February 5, 1932, in Mexi-
co.
She is survived by her
husband, Mrs. Esteban Cas-
tro; sons, Reynaldo, Esteban
Jr., Juan Jose, and Mario,
and daughters, Rosa Maria,
Maria Luisa and Gloria Ir-
ma. She is also survived by
her mother, Mrs. Dolores H.
Martinez; her brother,
Francisco Martinez, and her
sisters, Mrs. Elvira Pina,
Mrs. Hortencia Orenteria
and Miss Carolina Mar-
tinez.
Last Rites
Pending
Services are pending for
Jose Luciano Gonzalez, who
died at his residence here at
about 6 a.m. Sunday morning.
He was born July 7, 1882.
He is survived by his son,
Jose E. Gonzalez; his daugh-
ters, Mrs. Eliseo Sauceda,
Mrs. Nick Aguilar of Har-
lingen, and Mrs. Trinidad
Bocanegra; his sister, Mrs.
Severina Rodriguez from
Rio Bravo and several
grandchildren and great-
granchildren.

Boys Here After
Expo 67 Trip
Jim and Bob Gonzalez sons
of Mrs. Ada Gonzalez of Pon-
tiac, Mich., and formerly of
Mercedes, attended the Expo
67 in Montreal, Canada,
boys are members of the
Pontiac Boys Club. The trip
lasted nine days. Two days
were spent at Algonguin Park
in Canada where they enjoy-
ed camping, fishing and
swimming. Enroute to Cana-
da, the boys spent two days
in Niagara Falls. Jim and
Bob attended Mercedes
schools here last year.
Mrs. Gonzalez and Jim and
Bob are spending the sum-
mer in the home of her
father, Odon Garcia of Mer-
cedes and also in the home
of her sister, Mrs. RaulGar-
cia of McAllen. They will re-
turn to Michigan in Septem-
ber where Mrs. Gonzalez is
a teacher. Mrs. Gonzalez
taught last year in Kennedy
Elementary here.
