CUBS from Pag* 58
“They’re going to be very simi
Ur to us as far as overall Ulent
and, just like everyone eUe in the
district, they’re going to be right
in the thick of things,” Barnett said
“We always enjoyed playing
them, we had some great games
with them We had tne overtime
game in Dublin (Clifton 16, Lions
7), the year before that we beat
them here 27-20, so it’s always
been real tight with us two and I
expect it to De so again.”
DeLeon Bearcats
The ’Cats went 9-2 last year,
losing to Bangs in the Bi-District
playoffs, and nave a dozen letter-
men back, half-a-dozen starters
returning on both sides of the
ball. Head Coach Grady West has
177 career wins, all at DeLeon.
The Bearcats play host to the
Cubs on Friday, Nov. 1.
“I believe everyone in our
district’s good, but if somebody in
our district has the potential to
be like Hamilton was last year,
being one of the top teams in the
state, DeLeon is the one that con-
cerns me.
“We ll know by the time we get
to them in week nine, but the po-
tential is there for DeLeon to be
really, really good. At this point
they do scare me a little bit,” Bar-
nett said.
Just for a bit of history, the Cubs
have not met the Bearcats in
regular-season play since 1986-87.
Hico Tigers
The regular season comes to a
close with Hico coming to Clifton
on Friday, Nov. t, for a 7 SO p m dis
trict match. The Tigers went 6-4
Ust season, and have IS lettermen
returning from that winning sea-
son Six starters are back on either
side of the line, with several tal-
ented players in key slots on both
offense and defense returning
“This could be a huge, huge game.
Hico and DeLeon have been the top
two teams in the district in just
about all the predictions, not that
predictions really mean anything.
But when we first got into this dis-
trict, 1 was talking to the Hamilton
coach and to people who have been
playing some of these other teams,
Hico and DeLeon were the two
names that kept coming up,” Bar-
nett remarked
“I saw Hico in a scrimmage the
other night. They are very aggres-
sive, and have great team speed.
They will probably be the fastest
team in the district. They’re not
real big, but they're physical and
they run to the ball well.
“Playing them in week 10, hope-
fully, will be a huge game,” Coach
Barnett concluded.
